No thank you. Companies need to realize its our hardware. Same with iphones

@skprog No thank you to what?

First, UEFI it's not Microsoft's to blame, blame IBM.

Second, you know that there are A LOT of stupid consumers, so they must do things a way that prevents that these dumbs consumers break things (and get sued because "It doesn't work as intended")

Third, secure boot it's a way to circumvent someone booting up your machine with an unmanaged OS (thus avoiding data leaking and whatsoever)

I know, it should be more clear about how you handle UEFI, Secure Boot and dual boot, but so far I've not had issues knowing these simple things:

    + What's secure boot
+ Enter UEFI config of my machine
+ rEFInd (check the Arch Wiki)

So, relax, read and concentrate, you'll make it.

@skprog There are companies that know that you own the hardware (Motorola, for example, at least the last time I checked). But again, they have to protect against stupid people doing stupid things.

Let me put it this way:

Motorola's advertises on it's bootloader unlocking process that they don't take any responsibility for it and that doing so "may cause death"

Yeah, first it sounds like a fucking extreme case, but think about it for a second, you are a stupid user, you unlock the bootloader and some nasty programmer in a random website decided to "fork" it's own kernel that overclocks the CPU way beyond it's normal usage, thus leading to overheating and...the stupid user gets burnt (literally) because overheating caused it's battery to explode.

The stupid user, stupid as always, won't know why it happened, so it must be Motorola's fault, and the lawsuit begins.

    ----

There are ways to fight for our right over our hardware, and there are companies listening, but it won't be easy.

    @Pointer Oh okay, thanks

@Pointer what I'm worried is about the 10 people that upvoted the rant, or they just hate ms, or even worst they don't know anything about UEFI

And usually if you really want you can disable secure boot from bios

@dontbeevil or just add your own keys so you can sign your bootloader yourself (all better boards support this).

Microsoft ships grub signed for secure boot too
