Is Chromebook good enough for web development? Are there good ide available?

My priority is a good portable laptop.

    If it's about front-end, yes it's conveniable for beginners.

    But, based on what I know, you can't install anything like nodeJS, PHP, Angular, Python... And use it.

    If you work on a FTP server, then, maybe. I saw some good chrome extensions for text editor and ftp client.

    But I would not advice anybody to use a Chromebook for programming.

    Unless you use Web ide or have a linux desktop you can ssh into and work from the terminal I wouldn't suggest it

    @Jop- not really good for anything resource intensive though. if you don't compile regularly or don't mind waiting on a build it will work.

    I was looking into chromebooks for an on the go system but processor speed broke me from that idea

    @Jop- I thought the point of chromebooks was to get something cheap. when you start looking at high end chromebooks you might as well get a regular laptop where you'll have the option of running whatever you want without being tied down

    Thanks guys. Sounds like buying new Chromebook is not a good idea. Developer mode sounds risky. But if i find any second hand or refurbished model, I'd give it a try.

    @Jop- But I think a 32GB Hard Drive isn't enough in many cases 😕

    @Jop- i read about it online and it says developer mode voids warranty and there are some risks associated like accidental data wipe if pressing space button on boot screen.

    I'm thinking of buying Acer Switch 10E, it is very cheap, detachable, has touchscreen and os should be smooth given i dont intend to install anything more than google chrome and a simple IDE.
