Whenever someone would like to look up something on my laptop I take a deep, dark pleasure in watching them first struggle to move the mouse with the broken track pad, then drowning in desperation after they realise it's a Linux system with i3-wm.
But alas, I am a generous God and help them with 3 lightning fast keystrokes to open my installed browser - which is eLinks.
That usually does them in 😬

So I looked into i3wm since it gets mentioned here now and again.

Does it even have a normal desktop? All images I could find were just a bunch of terminals on top of eachother with no desktop in sight

Sure. That is your desktop. It basically tiles your screen whenever u open a program (that's why it's a tiling window manager). But it doesn't have a clickable menu. You primarily use shortcuts to move around, open and move tabs/tiles around etc.
It has some mouse support, but the only time I ever use the mouse is to click some remote part of a program that isn't directly accessible via keystrokes.
