Why everyone is happy about Google clip? It's the single most scary instance of a big brother appliance that exists today. What are they going to do with the data? They say it's save memories of your kid or your dog. There's already something like that. It's called a brain and paying attention to your damn life. I don't want to be saved in your shitty memories just bc you are so insecure about remembering your fuck*ng memories.

I'm sorry for the outburst but that sh*t is solving a problem nobody had and it's getting applauded like those heaven's gate motherf*ckrs that say that life is improved by these shitty beliefs.

The human brain isn't perfect. Remembering memories alters them.

Maybe they are going after GoPro ?

What does it do? Genuinely don't pay attention to Google stuff so yah 😅

@fun2code If I see anyone with that thing near me and the cam pointed at me I'll fucking smash it into the ground.
  • 4
@fun2code what the fucking fuck, can't people just take photos on their own?
  • 3
@RealKC that's exactly that's pissing me off. It the glassholes all over again.

@linuxxx I will do the same thing

So we know Google is integrated in PRISM. The nsa just got a non hacking way to literally have eyes everywhere.

    Scary as fuck.

@nachocode the glasses did that too(I guess it's something similar to it, idk), fucking hell. If I'd get smart glasses, I'd just want to be able to read my email, and maybe devRant and Discord, it's not like you'd be able to write messages on those things although some connected keyboard could do it I guess....

So the camera takes pictures when the AI behind it feels like it? Or you know when Google or the NSA feel like it.

How about they also implement face recognition so your face gets automatically recognized and the NSA, google, etc know where you are because you got photographed by some moron walking around in public with such a thing.

There even is a black mirror episode about something similar to this. They have like glasses which record everything so later they can go back and relive that moment.

@irene Can't say I agree. There's little things that can happen in your day to day life that you might not think much about at the time but looking at it later you can appreciate it. Humans tend to have horrible and inaccurate memories.

With that said, I still think it's kind of a stupid product, and I quite like Google products.
  • 1
@justsomeguy yes. And thats why we value those memories. What do you prefer?. Talking about those moments with your loved ones. Or watch the pictures from dd/mm/yyyy from a machine that decided what pics to take.
  • 3
@nachocode My point was that we typically don't remember the small moments.

It's the pictures that bring up the memories for you to talk about with your loved ones in the first place. "Oh shit, honey, look. Remember this?". There's plenty of times where my memory was jogged BECAUSE a photo was taken.

You guys are thinking in the wrong mindset. This isn't about taking you out of the moment, that's why it's automated in the first place.

But regardless, it's not a product I would personally buy. Just because you don't see a value in a product, doesn't mean others don't.

Except the recognition all happens on the device as evidenced by it working in airplane mode? Like there's reasons to hate Google but a nifty device to capture photos of your kids and pets during situations where you also want to be interacting with them isn't one of them imo

@plttn Will the code be open/could anyone verify that?
  • 0
@linuxxx well the obvious answer is test it in a Faraday cage but I'm sure that wouldn't be enough for you
  • 3
@justsomeguy So what if that AI captures someone's face by accident who is NOT alright with that? That becomes a real problem now.
  • 0
Then you delete the picture before it syncs to Google Photos and you move about your day?
  • 1
@linuxxx Afraid to tell you this, buddy, but that's already happening. On a daily basis. There are cameras everywhere. In fact, your face is already on footage, driving to work, in the background of people's selfies & snaps and so on.

    Welcome to reality.
  • 0
@Jop- the difference is that I know that are taking pictures because they put their cameras up. Not some snaky camera that records my face, remembers, learns from it and stores to be used in who knows what.
  • 0
@justsomeguy That is true, but it's the government or some building i already enter can have my facein it . I can live with that. Plus, I know and accept the reality of it. Like everytime i make a search on Google, it gets tracked. But can't we keep those cameras out of the privacy of our own homes.

Plus i didn't know the reality if things was to have cameras that store my data and my family's inside my own home. What's next?

@nachocode The welcome to reality comment was directed towards linuxxx's what if someone who doesn't want to be in a photo ends up in one comment.

If the device is in your house, the consent issue can't be applied now, can it? As it's not in a public area.

And yes. No one is telling you to buy this. You don't have to put this in your house if you don't want to.
  • 2
@justsomeguy Very true. They are not forcing you to buy it, but at the same time they are not telling the whole story abou the product.

What scares me is the amount of approval I've seen of it without thinking about the consequences.

Plus the use this product can have can be great and beneficial in other fields such as the study of crops and skin cancer. But instead it's been used to collect people's data about their daily life.

The point is that I'm surprised about the use of the tech just to take advantage of people that do not understand it correctly. And as a programmer I find it insulting since it's not for the betterment of their life but for recollecting their info. Why not use the same tech to make a mother recognize when their baby is sick or hungry and connect it to her account?

@Jop- lol. You got me in that one
  • 1
@Jop- I usually turn my head around, not that difficult.

@justsomeguy True but if you don't even try to prevent it, you're doing it wrong imho :)
  • 0
    @linuxxx If you're aware, sure.

But I'm willing to bet in most cases, you're probably not aware. Especially if it's at a distance (for example them being on the other side of a large road and they're taking a picture of the building you're walking in front of).
  • 3
@justsomeguy True. But at least trying is better than doing nothing.

And i know about the security cams etc believe me, I live in the country with the most security cameras in the entire world so yeah :P
