Good thing you left. These assholes need to learn their place. Hope they rot in stupidity and go out of business, because the world needs fewer such companies.

Oh my god, what kind of logic is that? You don't create enough value to be paid, but the company looses out on something if you don't work without pay there? Smh so much it hurts.

There’s no room at the company for you, because they clearly only hire dickheads.

Interesting thing is, that a feature I wrote is running on the production servers. I think he just wanted to guildtrip me into working for free. -
Yes what I don't get is, how people become this way... I haven't eaten so maybe this makes me so angry about that right now. Gonna get a snack -.-
-
Raghnaid3097yYou did well in jumping from the ship. Fuck them.
Also a protip: if they are a company big enough, see what it's been said about them on Glassdoor. -
winkyl477yGood job standing up for yourself and telling him to fuck off. What makes him think he can keep on getting free lunch off internship!
-
stereo12167yDon't let anyone say that to you. You are not letting down anyone, they are the ones being greedy and unprofessional. Good thing you left! You will find something better for sure, everything is better than that.
-
Thank you for leaving that company you have done us all a favour for not sticking around and showing him he can't do that!

NEVER WORK FOR FREE.
Fuck you. Pay me.
I highly suggest that you Google that phrase and watch Mike Monteiro's video on YouTube. -
@lquessenberry I do work for free sometimes, but it drastically changes the work dynamic. I donate time when the cause is worth it, for example in case of open source projects, or creating a computer course project for the local elementary school.
But at a for profit company, if you're valuable enough that they don't want you to leave, that value should be translated into a competitive salary. -
htlr52077yThe more people are ready to get unpaid internships these type of assholic culture gets wide spread.
People who actually wants a little incentive for being an intern gets rejected cz company can get interns working for free!!
Next time please don't take up an internship if they don't pay you, most of the good companies pays well for internships, if not its the latter.
This is a big problem here in India, we can't get internships just because they can find people who will do it for free. -
ivsiva47yI had the same kind of a semester and it sucked. The University was right next to a bunch of companies that were "nicely" offering internships without pay. So being pushed by time people accepted them. Some even had to work a part time job while at the internship to make rent. As for me I switched countries for a semester and had a PAYED internship. :D

That behavior is nothing short of despicable. That man should be ashamed of his actions. There are lots of good companies out there. Good luck friend.
So I just finished an unpaid! Internship at a local tech company.
At the final meeting my boss said that he wants to keep me in the company. But my "skill level" is not high enough to pay me just now, and if I would stay as an unpaid intern for some months, we could talk about being paid.
After I refused, he was mad at me for "abandoning the team" and "hurting the company"
I hope other company's will be better. :/
