That's a nice laptop. Used to be awesome back in the day. Also, they were built like a tank, will last you a loooooong time no probs

These thinkpads are solid,alot of students in the university I study at pickup thinkpads for awesome prices and stick linux on it.i really don't see many people doing that with other brands such as Dell and hp.

Seriously it's a great laptop, I have a t61. Get a ssd though, and flash the alternative bios that unlimits sata speed.
If you feel adventurous look for the mods in thinkpad forums.
You will love that 4:3 screen, trust me

He can, but he needs to be careful with the WiFi card.
He better use a firmware mod that whitelist them all and speeds up sata bus.

I'd do a t60/r60 hybrid if I got a spare,there are a few ihardware issues with the graphic card.

@nbamaral Well I just got this from a friend, I've already got 2 T430'es which I upgraded in the weekend, the trackpoint is however something that I need to get, I am however thinking about upgrading it with some spare parts that I have laying around(500GB HDD, and maybe some more ram if actually have ddr2 or if they have it in the thrift store) and I'll probably also try Libreboot

Read well about the WiFi card or you might have to swap it. I opted not to, maybe things are more complete now. Details are fuzzy 😊

I have a T61, all though the keyboard is missing some keys it's pretty good for watching Kodi. (Also the wifi doesn't work 😕)
