Thanks, but i think i'll pass...
getting back to the topic, is it just me that finds the monotony unbearable ? is changing tech stack / having a side project enough for you guys ? -
@pionell Did that, quite a few unfinished projects. Love C++ but can't stand how much work is necessary to create even a simple game. Even with engines.
-
i did think about a sideproject, but it's still the same thing, just different idea. Maybe a bit more motivation behind, but i don't even have an idea for such a project (too big of sceptic...).
I'm thinking that it may be time to leave programming altogether, but i really love the problem solving and thinking about solutions and making everything as effective as possible... not a lot of other areas to express those in... -
And the funny thing is that i did learn a few new things in this new workplace (been at it for 1.5 months now), but they were also temporary and now i'm back at doing the usual things...
-
yeah, did that. I'm now in my 5th employment during those 3 years :D i'm afraid a new stack is a temporary solution.
-
@tahnik yeah, and you're spreading false information, so please don't. Simple as that
-
no it will not block the content, it will only mute it. And even then, only if you have not interacted with the site in certain ways.
Please do some research next time -
@Brolls cool, i'll look into it
-
@allthingsinmod :D thanks, that gives me a bit more hope :)
-
And i mean, what's the point of working on these kind of projects ? you don't learn anything, you're just trying to keep the project's head above the water, until help arrives. And from my experience, it doesn't...
-
i'd rather change my profession than work on another project that sucks the life force out of me.
In this case, "It's you, not me" :D -
@Kodnot the question is, how many of them are recruiting right now :D i'm quitting my job, so with this 'attitude' i might have some trouble, but i should be fine if i rephrase it a bit, as @antic mentioned.
-
@teganburns even if it did, i was ranting about the general state of phones. Most of the phones, as far as i know, don't allow to change this without rooting.
-
@teganburns oh... that does actually make sense. But then why not use 1080p for everyday usage, and the higher one only for VR ?
-
@ThinkBigDev you actually can ? cool, i had to root my own LG to do that.
-
i have a 2560x1440 24" monitor at home, and even though the viewing distance is a bit longer, there's way too much pixels to distinguish them. 6" ? what the fuck.
-
@JS96 :D
-
there are countless developers who studied CS and don't know these things and countless developers who do not have a degree, yet have that knowledge. Degree does not give anything usefull if you're not willing to learn it. And sadly i know a lot more of the first kind of devs...
-
yey ! a fellow climber ! :)
-
If it's for RPS, i have no problem :)
-
i did consider C# and unity, but i just love the way C++ looks, she's gorgeous :D unlike C# (for me). Also i like Unreal engine a lot more than unity.
But yeah, C++ would be quite a bit harder, regarding finding a job, especially since my country currently has 2-3 jobs offers (whole country) for C++ (none of them for game dev of course). So the only options are :
1) contact local game dev companies directly (a bit sad though, since we don't have any pc/console developers - only mobile (which i can't stand))
2) relocate to another country, e.g. UK has quite a game dev hub.
3) remote... :D :D :D -
thanks :)
i'm from Lithuania.
you're talking about web dev right ? -
@CWins no, that's not the case. I don't have admin rights
-
@CrankyOldDev how come? what kind of experiences made you lower the score?
-
@hash-table yeah, the problem is that i wasn't told i'd be forced to use windows. I thought it was given that i could use anything. Especially when the company is international and has at least a hundred developers.
Also, it's php, so windows is not a necessity -
@CWins hmm... i guess it would make sense, but haven't heard about such cases in my career. Probably due to shortage of developers.
-
@CWins yeah, we do have a 3 month trial period, during which you can be fired without notice anytime. Then if you get past it, there are various rules for firing (if it's not your fault), you can be fired with 2 weeks notice and get paid 2 weeks worth of work (if you've workes less than a year, otherwise the leave pay increases) or you can be fired immediately with 6 months worth of salary as leave pay :D
-
ought to be easier to understand what i'm talking about with an image. What do you think?
also, i have exactly 2 years of experience -
@freedev
you should understand, that if a dev is using windows, there must be a reason for that.
@karwler
this option is missing for me, so now i'm trying to fix this shit again. every few updates something fucks up, and i always have to spend my time getting everything back to the way i want it... -
@-eth yeap, seems so.
Thanks a lot everyone :)
