Of course they don't, JS Dev deserve everything they got coming due to barbaric language choice.
-
@dotenvironment It's static analysis not Gradle automation. We can't override anything due to CTO being the only admin. Even Tech Lead isn't trusted. You're right about the CTO.
-
I static IP and home serve. Having all the power and all the risk is an addictive high. Of course, cloud backups for Docker volumes are a thing too.
-
This... This is what gives me hope for the future. There are still humans alive under the JS, people. Don't write them all off. @ZaLiTHkA you inspire us. <3
-
Man, I don't pretend to understand what you are ranting about but as the days go on, I don't get the impression that it is helping you. With kindness: Stop wallowing in self-pity and start working on changing your situation.
-
@hjk101 probably not; since currency display should typically use Banker's rounding. Printing a float directly won't do that. But I don't know JS space well, we're using JVM.
-
@b2plane Ur probably right; warning to the rest! FML

Before the inevitable 'you're probably just not pulling your weight at home' accusations... I'm the sole earner, she's at home all day with the kids. I get it, it's a stressful job. But so is mine, unfortunately my time outside the house appears to be considered as leisure time, so when I get home it's 'my turn to work'. Yes I do home chores too, but the list of jobs one can invent seemingly never ends. Ok let's balance things; I tell her to go out and have rest or leisure time, then I have mine too. Not good enough, the kids need her 24/7. A neurotic martyr syndrome, that we are all forced to suffer.
I just miss those days I could spend a couple of hours on a project; would be a great de-stresser. -
GitHub gives you the individual option to leave an organisation. I would do it. The power may be alluring, but for what? Only bad things lay that way. Leave the org.

@HitWRight I'll be more specific:
Many Russians do actively support the Putin regime, and they are not blameless.
However, let's assume our friend kiki here does not have any interest in politics or Russia's action in Ukraine. Of course I wouldn't then seek to blame or punish them for merely being Russian.
Even if they didn't do anything to affect the outcome though; they are still a product of a society that has shown itself to support murder. In that case, before taking themselves to contribute in another society, they should be introspective and ask themselves - what attitudes have I picked up from my home culture? While some are good, are there other traits that I should identify as being a harmful that I should consciously let go to begin my new life? It's for them to decide.
This is my response to others who too easily say things like "of course you shouldn't feel any guilt". How about we don't judge ourselves, but instead ask them to look in the mirror. -
@HitWRight
> I can't exactly understand, why would you feel guilty for actions of other people.
Kind sentiment; but looking at the regime the collective Russian culture has allowed to take hold in their country, I wouldn't want to discourage any Russian from doing a bit of soul-searching right now. Responsibility isn't always direct, and fleeing Russians might do well to identify 'culturally acquired' parts of their character that ought to be cast-off when they start again... -
Crystallised thought at light-speed.

Why are you scared? I don't think that's an emotion I've often felt in this job. Maybe once or twice at 3am when I was guts-deep in a failing refactor-too-far before a deadline... but not in the normal course of things. Tell us how it is, mate?
-
Sorry for the low-effort rant; but it really explains the beginning and end of my interest in Tabnine.
Apparently they have some whizzy AI code completion tool, a concept that I do find somewhat interesting...
Unfortunately they've immediately alienated me as a developer by spamming their low-value auto-generated pages into every single code-related Google search, a dick move which irritates me to the point that I'll never use their tech.
Bad move, Tabnine, when I look into AI-autocompletion, I'll use one of your competitors, thanks. -
He's going, let him have the damn bag. I haven't read the previous 'T' posts but it sounds like he's the one dodging the bullet.

Strength brother. Dad of two trying to build a complete App, full stack with multiple client platforms. Spend more time coding it in my head while the circus of kid stuff abounds... Only time it hits the keyboard is around midnight when they've gone to bed and the kitchen is all done etc. Single Devs with ideas, do it now, don't wait, you'll regret it! Trying to achieve something in code, with kids, is another level of hard. Quite testing emotionally.
-
@Fast-Nop Short, solid advice. Cheers.
-
How else will they know you're not on track? j/k Been there too many times, it's so frustrating. Good luck.
-
This is why I'll *never* understand Devs who go for the 13" MacBook models. Screen real estate is king in Software Development; and there are often situations where you need to get some work done, where external monitors aren't available.
-
The two are separable. For example; you can go a long way writing mobile code in C# Xamarin, or game code in C# Unity, all while having minimal knowledge of the .NET Framework. Source: have done these things.
-
Not to let optimism get in the way of a good rant or anything; but if you look into Kotlin Multiplatform, it does seem genuinely more compelling than anything that's gone before: for a start it doesn't try to do too much in the sense that it doesn't own the whole Dev process; it's a shared library within Native Dev. Also the ecosystem has a broader reach to Web and Desktop. JetBrains are building an ecosystem worthy of attention. Last but not least; Kotlin isn't JavaScript.
-
What an absolute dumpster fire of a language. You'll never catch me near it. Looking forward to WASM so we can get some proper compiled languages in the browser and end 20 years of hurt.
-
Thanks for comments.
Following the above; Dev1 was unhappy that the Tech Lead had said:
"Now; I'm going to be straight with you here.
This issue has been discussed over several hours today.
I expect that either one of you could have gone through the process I did in the last 10 minutes above, and resolved it in the same way"
Do you think it was fair of the Tech Lead to say this? -
