Very well restrained this black friday - Only bought 1 thing that I'd been wanting for a while - as it was 30% off. I bought a Ledger Nano X for security's sake, and I must say it's a great upgrade compared with the ledger nano s, which has half of the screen height and no embedded battery
Did black friday empty your pockets?2 -
BEEM (Python) wrapper for the STEEM API, it makes my life so much easier.
If that doesn't count and you want an API-yer API, SteemYY.com - Data on demand which is a pain to extract and tbh idk where to get it if it wasn't for this -
I love steem-"I don't know how to serialise JSON so lets throw an error when you provide a dictionary"-js. I know it's a convinience, but don't tell me one of my characters is invalid as it's just not serialised.
Should probably mention:
The rest of the libraries accept JSON text and dictionaries/arrays so this is non-standard and also this lib doesn't provide type hints.
Learning node has been a big pain in the ass, when you come from everywhere else where asynchronicity is an afterthought, with node it's not a choice LOL. -
Oh yeah of course, when you release 2 apps in one week, it doesn't take people long to break one of them. (Or rather me to mis-code them). Who in their right mind would want to **decline** rewards? Someone did and now I've got another problem to solve eventually.
I'm suffering from success 😓. LOL!
Anyway I'll solve that eventually as I've managed to remove another job from my list - for a friend and got a nice reward for it =)
This happened on friday and I'm only just ranting today, happy #breakfriday - scheduled every friday! -
Ok I remembered to come back.
I just released guest posting on the STEEM blockchain. https://api.steem.tools/post and it's looking okay, I just hope people actually see it.
I had to learn node for this and it took like 3 months to make so please let this work good ffs. -
Ok, so I'm back.
Here's what's happened since I've been gone:
(1y apparently according to DevRant)
1) Lots of nitty gritty stuff that y'all aren't gonna give a fuck about, and tbh I can't remember either so win-win, right? Basically: Failed Projects that I'd rather not talk about. Laugh @ them here -> https://steem.tools
2) I released "Steem Engine Tools" on the STEEM Blockchain - https://steem.tools/steemengine - and it reached over 1k users within the first month, which I was really proud of. It still pulls in around 30-60 daily (monthly unique) users! I'm still really happy with it and people seemed to love it too, which added to my happiness.
Errr... it broke a month later, but I eventually fixed it and people still seem happy with it.
3) I released dMessages just 3 days ago -> https://chat.steem.tools and it recieved over $60 in upvotes and was seen by major members of the community (they loved it more than SE Tools), and that only took me 2 days LOL. So I guess less effort = more success but whatever I don't care it works-ish and people are happy with it as an Alpha MVP.
4) I'm currently writing more code to add yet another function to the Blockchain, which I think is severely limiting. This one took the most time, so by my rule above, it's going to do terribly but if I come back within a reasonable timeframe, I'll tell you all about it and maybe all the struggles I've had with it. But it's my precious SOURCE CODE, yeah I like my monopolies 🤣.
Yeah so life happens, people actually know who I am and CADawg is a meh-I-think-I've-heard-of-him name on the STEEM Blockchain now.
P.S. If you want an account, I've got 6 (and counting) free accounts to give away so just HMU on STEEM (good luck lol without an account) or twitter @_CADawg or comment below if you want Telegram, Discord .etc.
Thanks for reading,
~ @cadawg -
Guess who's back...
Me. I've been busy making stuff for STEEM, but as the devrant app caught my eye, why not come back?
I really hate typing on a mobile so I'll probably write a long post tomorrow! -

Me doing a complete design overhaul of my website and deciding not to make the background the horrid grey colour that I'd used since I taught myself.
Also Material UI and learning that I don't need everything to have all the whistles and bells when it goes out for use.
A.K.A my current CSS stylesheet & PHP is what I am hyped for!!
(Mainly because it looks good, and my homemade transaction processor works and has a cool UI.)
Yay, realisation, because I am looking forward to releasing it soon!!! -
People at school believe using a library == Script Kiddie who can't code.
The icing on the cake is that they call themselves great programmers, and because they are 'superior' they don't use libraries and never will...
I smell bullshit
Oh, you have used the python math library... script kiddie.
You use jQuery, you little script kiddie?
(Because I have taken responsibility for my learning of languages and that is obviously not allowed)14 -
Fuck, accidentally reported a rant because my hand was resting on the fucking report button.
Shit, and sorry to the comment's author!6 -
Just installed linux (Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS x64) because windows update was being a cunt, instantly, it all fell into place and I got it fully running with minecraft (using generic driver, but it actually works pretty well, don't worry I will get the proper one tomorrow) and a desktop icon for it within two hours compare to windows (update) taking 4 days to do barely any updates, not accepting java or graphics drivers, which it requires because fuck opengl with the default drivers.
Fuck windows. Hooray for linux!
Now back to programming...
Thanks for putting up with me but I just need to vent because I felt like I couldn't program (and I didn't) because of FUCKING DOOLALY WINDOWS 8!
Btw thanks to the local charity shop for introducing me to (SUSE) linux when I was like 11, giving me a hope in hell of using linux. I now have around 11 bootable linux disks and 1 bootable flash.rant all praise ubuntu hail linux ranting my fucking arse off java works fuck windows opengl by default3 -
Stop using 5 year old, terrible drag and drop website designer which uses inline CSS and JavaScript and let us actually write it. They (barely) teach us html and then say that using a website designer is how it works in the real world. They actually disallow us writing it from scratch. Just glad I taught myself it already!9

I just thought that some devranter's would find this interesting:

This is a link to my new guide about how to join.
There is no advertising and it is open source7 -
Everyone in my family except my dad thinks that I play video games all day, my dad is actually interested in programming 😀.

Was looking at devRant ducks, then saw the shipping price. 😭. 16 Bucks... Wishing for cheaper shipping this Christmas...4

Question: Does anyone take scratch as a real programming language?
My answer: Hell no! But I'd like to see your opinion below.
Why now? Cuz I'm new to devrant and I saw and as saying that this robot had AI, when what it really meant was you can use our scratch ripoff and use our 10 lines of premade code...
Thanks for putting up with me!9 -
Not having a team that wants to work together. Everyone does their own thing, occasionally people talk whilst making drinks, but no real communication. Worst teamwork fail.2

I was asked to make a system in visual basic which, from a database, could output a ridiculously complex summary page, and dynamically created pages for each record in excel. The system was originally completely self contained using tables, but it "wasn't presentable enough".
Lessons learned: Excel in VB is a pain in the backside. Avoid if at all possible.
1 week and too many lines of code and cups of tea later, I became the "excel guy"
Also, another one is when I was asked to use unhashed, unencrypted passwords and store them just as they were for the company's main management system. The password were also appalling. No surprise there.
So there you have it. Bad practices and tricky excel.2 -
The bane of my existence:
Closing lines in PHP. Always accidentally miss one or two out and then go playing hide and seek with them.4
