@bazmd This was mid 2020, it's long gone. I also tried tapping the screen and knocking the bottom part of the frame just be sure. It got worse.
-
A few of the diffusers behind my tv's panel had started to drop off leaving bright spots on my screen. Spent a couple of weeks looking up as much information as possible on how to fix it and take apart the tv. I've swapped out phone, tablet and laptop screens before so this is just bigger, right?
I finally have a day to myself, open up the tv, and the way that the ribbon cable connects the display to the main board matches none of the examples I'd found in my research, even from the same brand. The way that this board is secured means I HAVE to mess with this cable too.
I persist anyway, get the diffusers back in place, everything goes back together, I don't even have any screws inexplicably left over. Turn on the tv aaaand it's fucked. Lines everywhere, but no cracks so I'm thinking the weird ribbon cable. Didn't really have the option to replace it, so that was that. -
@Demolishun Had an old client tell me once that you should always double your estimate to take account of unforeseen issues, or triple it if you're still new to the game to also take account of your fledgling abilities.
It was one of my first jobs and took three times as long as I thought it would. -
1000 remaining?! How many have you done already?
-
@AmyShackles Good luck! The missus and I are trying for our second. She's very pleased that she's not "geriatric" yet.
-
@CoreFusionX When asked crappy job interview questions like "What's your biggest weakness", I tell them that I don't function very well in the morning. I'm not a grouchy, "Don't talk to me until I've had my coffee" type, but if you're checking in with me to see how things went yesterday I will reply with "What was I working on yesterday?"
-
@Demolishun I've just realised I have those and therefore must be old now, so thanks.

Love a bit of woodworking. Starting with nothing and ending with a finished piece of something, it scratches the same itch as coding something.
It does however leave me with a different itch because I'm terrible for not wearing a respirator and always end up with sawdust up my nose. -
Wasn't bad. Would've been better if I'd finished fixing my 3d printer. Currently waiting for work to finish so that I can go home and carry on.
Saturday night. Friday night I'm too drained from the week and Sunday night is always a rush. Busy trying to get as much done as possible before heading to bed ready for Monday. -
It was good, I miss it already. Finally got my home workstation back up and running (for the most part) after the move.
Also, red. Because Jason was the coolest Ranger when I was a kid. -
Cats are lovely, but they're also slightly demonic.
-
Extremely envious. I really wanted to see them in London, but skipped out on tickets because it wasn't going to be doable for me.
Spent years waiting for them to come over before any more of them kick the bucket. I'm still gutted. -
@retoor I still come here for the entertainment, but now it includes kikidreams and cat of the day pics.
-
@retoor You just saved me a post asking, thank you so much! I know what I'm doing after work. After than the important stuff like keeping the kid fed, clean and happy anyway.
-
@DreEleven There's at least one alternative app that I believe solves some issues that users have been having, but that's still a devRant client.
I've seen a few posts here and there about where people might go once this thing finally kicks the bucket. I think they've resulted in some challenges to build a replacement and there might be a Matrix server? I've really been meaning to find out.
I think the consensus is that dR should just be made open source so that those who are still here can maintain and improve it. -
@scor I had a particularly shitty manager for a few years that put me on any and every task that wasn't development related, stringing me along with the promise of things changing soon. My skills went down the toilet and I didn't log in here because I didn't feel like a developer any more. I'd have been a fraud.
I feel like I was away I missed the best years here. -
As someone who's spent many an hour of free, personal time fixing shit that someone else borked, I really hope that you didn't log in and fix this issue. When people realise how much they can take advantage of you in this way, it can easily ruin your job.
-
@localpost noice. My stress ball lives at home on my desk, but the duck lives at work.
-
@fix-my-monitor did you at least manage to get a refund through your bank/card provider? That sucks.
-
@NeatNerdPrime gutted for you. My brother picked a couple up for us way back. Also a pair of dev ducks. I finally decided to sticker bomb my laptop so I'm hunting for my devRant stickers.
-
Sorry to hear that you're feeling that way. It sounds like severe depression, but it's absolutely something that can be changed.
I hope that you're able to speak with your doctor as soon as possible, because the quicker you do, the quicker you'll start to get your life back. -
@retoor asking the important questions.
-
@vane welp, I knew it'd happen eventually.
-
@vane it looks like I'm melting! Nope, not changed anything?
-
@retoor thanks, I think so too. I also make sure to tell her regularly.
-
@retoor her name is Molly and she'll be 13 this Saturday.
-
@retoor Thankfully, my own cat is neither fat, nor lame.
-
@electrineer still the best version https://youtu.be/ALZZx1xmAzg/...
-
@cafecortado 100,000?! Definitely missed that one.
-
I'm not feeling detached, but I'm currently facing the fact that I'm going to have to move on from here in the next year or so. I like the job, I like the people, I like how much I'm learning and growing here, but the pay isn't going to keep up with inflation and the cost of living. It sucks.
