The tweet says it all. I'm getting FAR less internet speeds than I'm paying for. I know that technically you get "up to" the speed you pay for but this is rediculous. I'm too lazy to call and fight with my shitty ISP, though. A simple Python script runs a speed test once an hour and if my speeds are less than a set number, it crafts this tweet and tweets at my ISP. I left it running a couple of weeks ago and.the last time I checked it's sent about 600 tweets. I have responses after responses from them but I'm waiting until it sends about a thousand tweets to reply, just out of spite. It continually amazes me the shit ISP's get away with.34

Changed my background up, changed the lighting color, and added a MacBook to the setup using Synergy. Thoughts?22

I found a position, applied online. A couple days later, the hiring manager called me and invited me for an interview. I'm really excited, the company seems amazing and the opportunity seems like something that would be good for me.
I go at the agreed upon time and date to my interview. "Oh, sorry! The hiring manager isn't here right now. Would you like to reschedule?". I'm still excited about the company so I reschedule.
I go at the agreed upon time and date to my interview. "Oh, sorry! The hiring manager isn't here right now. Would you like to reschedule?". I'm pretty confused and upset but the guy convinces me to reschedule again.
Two days later, I get a call from the hiring manager saying they have chosen not to continue the process, etc.

Updated setup. One monitor is not like the others but the square is perfect for Discord while gaming. 👌2

Today, I got a DMCA notice from Digital Ocean for a VPS I'm running a VPN on. The notice stated that apparently someone downloaded some movies using said VPN. That someone definitely was not me. Fuck. *Quietly destroys VPS.*11

👏LEAVE👏ME👏THE👏FUCK👏ALONE👏YOU👏GAY👏FUCKING👏ROOMMATE👏
I was over you from the second you came in my room uninvited and sprayed both me and everything else in here with perfume.
Take your 3rd grade humor somewhere else.
(Yes this is a part 2 to yesterday's rant, but this shit just keeps triggering me more. Send help.)6 -
I finally have a day off to work on some projects in peace. Oh wait, my fucking roommate keeps knocking on the door every 3 seconds. LEAVE. ME. THE. FUCK. ALONE.1

Does anyone else here play Player Unknown's Battlegrounds and is as blown away at how fucking terrible their dev team is? I mean, I get the game is a early access and that comes with a certain level of instability, but over the last few weeks I've gotten increasingly triggered about it.
Here's a small list of what they've managed in the last few months or so.
1) Upgraded their servers and somehow managed to make the game so laggy it's unplayable.
2) Changed the DirectX requirements secretly (not even in the patch notes), but not their minimum specs, leaving people with lower end graphics cards thinking they can run the game only to get errors on launch.
3) Introduced a weekly and monthly patch system, then released patches that consistently broke the game and made it unplayable until hotfixes were pushed. They then announced they will no longer be releasing regular patches after managing to break their internal testing system. Not that they were using it anyways.
4) Major bugs and memory leaks that everyone knows about have not been fixed in months and have been instead ignored to spend time on adding more important things, like adding car horns. The fucking broken jump mechanic has gotten me killed so many fucking times because it's impossible to jump at all but yes, what I needed was a horn.
5) Downtime in the middle of the fucking day, with no warning, for things like server maintainence.
6) Promising no microtransactions in the game until full release and then, surprise, adding them anyways.
There's so much more that these fuckers have done but now I'm far too triggered to go on. Anyone else agree with me or am I just raging solo? 😂4 -
So I gave in to the pressure and torrented the first episode of the new season of Game of Thrones to add to my Plex library, which resulted in me getting a very friendly (not) letter from Comcast concerning copyright. I was very impressed by their not giving a fuck about my last 5 years of *cough* alleged torrenting, but as soon as I downloaded an episode from a popular show currently in production, I was immediately slapped with a notice.
Anyone gotten a notice of copyright infringement from ISP's before, and if so, has anything actually happened to you after you were caught? Any other interesting torrent/copyright related stories?
Please no debate on copyright infringement, leave that shit on Reddit.14 -
Straight up having panic attacks because bills are building up and I can't find even a tech support job to help out. I can't even get a call back. Any ideas?7

I've written a software application for an enginnering company to help them sync their files between 3 different office locations. It's a Windows application that communicates with a server in one of the offices, and can either sync periodically or manually after a big data operation such as restoring from backups. I delivered it in January. This morning I recieved a feature request from their Director of IT for the start button to be made "more obvious", because apparently the big blue button marked "START", which is also the only button, is too confusing. These people are engineers.
Help me on my way towards the stress ball and I'll release a version with the button in bright neon pink.2 -
Anyone used Pi-Hole on their network to block ads? Set a box up with it just to see and so far pretty impressed!5

Writing a PHP (yes I know) login system for some personal projects. I'm looking at secure storage of credentials, specifically encryption algorithms. Obviously, I want to use something secure, but hopefully at least somewhat future-proof. I've been told that Blowfish could be a great option, but do you wonderful people have any other suggestions?3

@dfox Are you hiring anyone to help with this awesome app? I happen to know a pretty awesome ops guy. ;)6

Do any of you older and wiser devs have any advice for a junior year college student (3rd year for any international devs), particularly how to get a development-related job while still in college? It feels like I'm not quite qualified enough to get any of the jobs I come across but I would much prefer to find an opportunity to learn while I gain more experience and finish my degree than flip burgers or do another entry-level job.
Thanks!4 -
Posted a StackOverflow question. Had a nice, thorough explanation of my problem, what I was trying to do, and why. I linked to my code and posted. The only answer I got was "You have to share your code or nobody can help you."... Really?4
