@C0D4 If I grab a couple of Python functions and implement them in JS, that doesn't mean Python is now client side.
-
My web dev class was about the life and work of Tim Berners Lee, Arpanet and shit like that. It was more of a history of the internet class... Oh, and one time the teacher said PHP was a client side language, until he Googled it because we pointed out that was stupid.
-
Not to mention that many of them are complete idiots when it comes to recruitment. "Hello <insert name here>. I'm looking for an Android Developer and I'm interested in your profile. Please send me your resume". Stupid asshole, I get messages like this 20-30 times a week, why should I be interested in leaving my current job for a position you don't tell me shit about? That's why you don't find developers, dipshit.

It's common to feel like a stranger when you first start in a team. It's common to feel stupid when you start working with a new codebase. It's common to start with simple trivial tasks during your first days in the team. The team is not used to you and you're not used to the team. You have to give it a couple of months and you'll eventually start to fit in their workflow.

My company's app has a small section written in RN. It's by far the slowest part of the entire app, it takes a ridicoulus amount of time to load and everybody in the team hates to maintain that part of the app.

When I got my first programming interview I was scared as fuck, but everything went good for me. They won't ask anything crazy like neural networks or AI, you only need a reasonably good background in data structures, algorithms and OOP. Just be chill and believe in yourself, walk in as if you own the place.

@segfault0xff I know, I've been there and struggled with non documented software too, but here's the deal: I was one man team developing backend, frontend and attending meetings for requirements, doing everything while still attending my full time job... Oh, and I did it for free. I kinda understand that guy, but that's not a reason to be such an ass. Still, the guy doesn't seem to have the technical skills for maintaining the system. When you can't clone a Git repo and setup XAMPP, the documentation is probably not the problem.

When I was a junior dev fresh out of college, I was intimidated by the fact that plenty of other devs applying for the same positions claimed to have more experience, that made me look down on myself and believe I couldnt compete against them, but later on I realized the job market is full of clowns saying they have many years of experience, but aren't capable of write a simple fizzbuzz program.
-
@RickDiculous179 Not really sure. They've been running for 5 years now. One friend from college works there and says it's a good company.
-
@milkybarkid Yes, kind of big, their app has more than 10 million downloads, though their code is kinda messy and unreadable since it is legacy code brought from Brazil full of comments and notations in portuguese. This other company is more of a startup with many green field projects.

This is where the good old flaming bag of dog shit prank would come in handy.
-
I think you should be more pacient with the guy. When I was a fresh grad, I didn't know shit about git nor testing, all I knew was basic OOP with Java. I felt like a complete and useless idiot during my first job, but the senior devs where pacient and helped me every time I got lost. Now I'm a senior myself and can do anything on my own, also help new junior devs on their way.

I live in Mexico and things are not as fucked as in many other countries. As a junior, I'm making something around 6-7 USD/h; an average senior can make 11-12 USD/h. It's still pretty crap though.

@Linuxxx I remember the first CRUD system I made as a school project back in 4th semester. I hadn't taken any SQL courses at that moment and had no clue how to JOIN tables. I ended up nesting many loops and making a bunch of SELECT's to query data I could've retrieved with just one single query. I feel embarrassed every time I look back to that code.

@Charon92 I'm familiar with Material Design and I also think it's cool, but the point is that UI design is ambiguous and subjective. Anyone can say Material Design apps and websites are crap and you cannot prove them wrong.
