Anyone here from Lebanon? Never seen a lebanese person here. I can't be the only one here come on :s4
//Tech Support in the family, mom fail.
(Me on my mom's windows 7 laptop coding a game extremely frustrated with scalability problems).
Mom (walks in) : Son! Today I was using my laptop and the screen suddenly started to flash like crazy! I was afraid it would explode!
Me (wtf reaction) : Ah? Hmm, what were you doing? Were you charging it? (and many other questions)
Mom: I was typing and it suddenly started flashing! And it's not the first time! Is my laptop going into problems because you are filling it up with your unnecessary videos and stuff? (referring to my dev courses)
Me (I know my mom) : Sounds weird, I'm 100% sure the screen didn't do anything of what you said and everything is pretty normal, I'll try looking up the problem on google tho. And mom, how many times do I have to tell you few GBs of files won't destroy your 8 years old laptop?
Mom (leaving) : Please find a solution, I need it tomorrow!
I was pretty sure there's no problem, so I went back to Unity and started fucking my brain again. After an hour or so, I wanted to import an asset from my Desktop, instead of importing it inside Unity, I hovered over the Show Desktop icon on the taskbar to click it. When the mouse was over the icon, I immediately facepalmed, with mixed up emotions, between sad and willing to laugh out loud. My mom came back and sat behind me, I started the conversation with a fucked up face, then said : Mom, not again...
Mom : What are you talking about?
Me : The problem with the screen flashing...
Mom : Oh! Did you fix it or is my laptop going to die?
Me : Hovers mouse over the Show Desktop icon.
Mom (screams weirdly) : Ah! It's flashing again! What is happening?! An electrical problem?!
After laughing outrageously, I introduced her to the Show Desktop futuristic feature. She then started to laugh too xD
Being the Tech Support guy in the family can be so funny sometimes xD10

The cringe is real.
That guy who thinks he is a hacker and a "pro IT guy" (as he claims) and you find out he's retarded af... And that guy who wants to become a computer "genius" but just barely knows how to type and make researches on google on his computer.
There is that little nerd looking like but actually hardly over the average student in my grade who thinks he is a hacker and an IT guy. Yes, he claims to be. So I got into a discussion with him, trying my best not to humiliate him. I find out he is just a guy who uses Mac and watches tutorials about "hacking" games and stuff like scripting. Ugh. Still just explained it to him. Then he was like what makes you think you are better than me in IT, I never saw you talking about it. And I respond saying I never said I have more knowledge, I just started learning programmation and started watching Java/C# and some web development courses. He gives me some weird look, and just to appear that he can understand, he says, oh HTML... That's for NOOBS.
I said ignore the web development part (really don't wanna explain shit to him, he doesn't seem to accept someone being better than him at something). He then says, I can make games. I'm like woah, what game engine do you use, what type of games, etc... Then again, he just downloaded a finished project and thought it's his own made game, and that he made animations. "Animations". Using some software typing angles and "code" in it. Again I ignore the cringe, and say, did you hear about Unity? I'm familiar with it's API and editor, I like it. Again weird look, and then suddenly calls some friends who hate him because he's fucking retarded and annoying, and shouts "Look at this guy, he thinks he knows Unity". We ask him what he means, then he responds "Idiot, Unity is the company that made Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed"
He almost got kicked by one ot my friends for wasting their time, he just went away after I explained it to him.
Yeah, that experienced hacker and "pro in IT", fuck him!
And then we have the dude who doesn't know Windows is the OS his PC is running, and dreams about becoming a computer engineer (he once called it computer genius), and has struggles saving his Word documents files. And he doesn't even like it. He just says he wants to become a computer engineer because it would give a better idea about him to the people surrounding him.
And lastly, the guy who jumped out of his seat when our French teacher was struggling to put the USB flash drive in the laptop to show us some video. So he runs towards her, grabs the USB flash drive and tries to insert it, then finds out he had to flip it, so he does, then he was stuck for a bit at the autorun part, so he just closes it and go search for the folder in my computer, after wasting time not knowing which icon was the right one. Oh God, the cringe starts here... When he double clicks on the video, the teacher smiles at him, and tells him that he's very talented and might become a tech genius or computer engineer. And he gets excited... Then when the video ended, he just pulls the USB out without safely removing it (he doesn't know what's that). And she again smiles after he clicks shut down. He then just brags about being a genius in tech.
I wouldn't rant about/criticize somebody who's not good in IT or computers or struggles, but I would love to do that to people who do actually fail and struggle big time but claims they are good and brag about nothing, to people who have no knowledge who then believe in those guys. That's one way of spreading ignorance...13
Everyone takin screenshots of their new coding setups and stuff and I'm here using a 7-8 years old laptop making fucking weird sounds and praying for it to stay working...5
//post about the point of view of parents to programming.
Me : Mom, look at this new app I made! (Proceed to show her the app and the features)
Mom : Looks nice son, but if you have these good skills, why don't you do something useful and get better marks on maths?
Me : How is this not useful? And why did you have to bring maths?
Mom : Son you need to get a good job and a good salary when you grow up, focus on studying, look you have the skills, I didn't like your result in chemistry last time.
Me : WHAT DOES CHEMISTRY HAVE TO DO WITH THIS? And how is programmation not a job? And why focus on the "good salary"?
Mom : You don't understand. You need a good job. You should become an engineer or a doctor or else (something like you are trash), so stop wasting your time.
Me : And what about this app?
Mom : It's nice son! (didn't even pay attention to it)
Me : (deletes project and app)
Ugh! Why do parents not consider programming a job? Why do they think like that? Both my parents want me to become either a doctor or an engineer, just because "good salary", they don't even ask if I want to... BRUH!
Fucking tell me what to do? Force me to become what I don't want to become, and discourage me to become what I really wanna become?
Especially that they aren't that good at science/maths as I am. They are actually french teacher and history teacher. BRUH.
And coding and making apps isn't useful? Next joke please.28
Is it just my country that doesn't want to teach programming to students in schools, or at least give them an idea of how this machine you use all the time and how these apps you use daily work, or it's the case in all countries in the world?
I'm 15, 2 years and a half away from finishing school. All what school taught me is how to type on fucking Word (not even advanced stuff, just writing text and selecting it and clicking on B to make it bold, like really? And that's taught for like 6-7 years!!), how to make a very simple PowerPoint presentation and put numbers in Excel and making some basic calculations. Well that's not of a big deal, but come on, those aren't stuff students in 9th grade must take!! What I learn now? Access!! Finally!! They are teaching me how to put values into tables. Great! I have no much problem with this, but what?! My friends/classmates are finding it hard and senseless, some of them are failing to animate text in PowerPoint using that animation pane, while I was in my home working on an android app (using Android Studio) that would steal their facebook accounts informations ( I was 14 and found it funny to trick them since they don't know shit about tech). It was basically a lie, the app had, like, a clone of the login screen of the original facebook app, and I told them it would change the design of your original facebook app and colors. They got excited and downloaded it. The app would actually not even want the permission of Internet (I forgot to fake the need of Internet permission). How the fuck did they not notice that?? I blame our school that doesn't teach shit. The app would actually asl them to login to their facebook accounts to change the design and stuff, while it would actually send the accounts informations to me via SMS. I tested it in my home on two phones, they can't actually notice an SMS was even sent. Very basic stuff eh?? I thought I could have a good laugh with them when they would tell me I was trying to steal their accounts, but what the fuck? I just got 5 SMS messages with the name of the friend, his e-mail and his fucking password to his account. I was like really? REALLY?! They didn't know shit. I taught they were planning a prank on me with fake informations, I tried logging in with one friend's information, but no, I actually logged in. Thanks to our school, this little, obvious and basic buggy trick worked, they were like ignorants. And I had to screenshot the SMS of everyone and send each one to they guy who sent it, telling him the truth behind this app that didn't change shit in their apps. They were mind blown and immediately changed their passwords. Next? They wanted a copy of the app that would send SMS messages to their numbers instead. I was like yes, but give me credit (silly). I was surprised no one asked me how I managed to make this app, until the fifth one asked me about the process of making it instead of a copy. I was happy to introduce him to Java. But fuck, he didn't even have a computer. He eventually told my other friends about this conversation. They were surprised to know that's how developers make their apps, but they still thought it's useless stuff to learn. And that's the story of the first app I released, to my friends... Next was a little 3D game (first person shooter) I made with Unity in C# one year later (6 months ago). They can't get over the fact I'm a computer genius, while I think I'm a very bad programmer who can't write few lines without stackoverflow, and I'm still blaming school for this. This year I told my teacher that I was disappointed with all this. He looked at me with wide open eyes and told him about how he got his actual job and that he learned programmation at school and talked about his little projects that he lost due to a hard drive problem in 2000 and all that stuff. I found hope that Lebanese people (I'm lebanese btw, from Lebanon, middle east) actually have a clue about computers/tech/programming, even if only like 5% of us. School would teach us how to sing "Monitor!! Keyboard!!" In 1st grade and end up teaching us how to type in 9th grade, but wouldn't teach us how these fucking machines work and how they read code, or at least give us an idea. I really want to become a game developer, I have the passion for it, but Goddamn it, there is no place where I can learn!! And I really wanna see my friends know how their stuff work instead of having no clue about their phones OS!! Is it the case in every school out there?? Because I think middle east is not as involved into tech as much as, like, Europe and the USA are, for example. Or am I just whining and I'm actually wrong and that's what shool is suppoed to teach us, alongside with what the fuck is the name of that thing that lets the plant breathe... I feel unlucky I can't learn already, I think I have the capabilities to. This is also my first post on devRant. It's been like one week since I installed the app and I already love it!! :D25
