Is the B option completely off the table? -
@asgs i did need approval
-
@ctrl-alt-del accepted the offer, let’s see where this leads 🥳
-
@magicMirror been only 7months at the current company 😄
-
@Crost never did functional programming, but Other topics I feel I know good enough. Thanks
-
@black-kite I’m curently started interviewing. Good thing that there was an avalanche of recruiters lookong for my stack this month, so have a pool to choose from. Will see where this leads
-
@TrevorTheRat I’ve been doing freelance on the side for years now. Depends on the type of freelance - company outsourcing or you working directly with clients yourself. If it’s the latter one it should be fine and good. Just have to comb through the clients to avoid the non paying ones. If it’s the former.. sounds like a job for usually lower pay, less benefits and being replacable. I’d avoid it.
-
@AlmondSauce not all of them, but most of them fron what I saw
-
@TrevorTheRat I’ve already passed the probationary period 😬
-
@TrevorTheRat same..
-
@Stuxnet it’s an iphone 6s on 13.2.3
-
@coffeeholic i’ll keep that in mind
-
@coffeeholic why bad? I don’t work half as long in the company as other people. It’s just weird being one of the youngest workers and self taught as well, having a lot of knowledge gap and being paid more then others. I start feeling inadequate for the job.. The imposter syndrome if you will.
-
@nibor checked the public records of my current company, and after pay increase my wage is about 40% higher then our companies median.. I feel a bit bad about that
-
@coffeeholic I am a bit afraid of challenges, but I spoke with my company and we will be starting a few new projects soon, and my plan is to upskill for a while and refactor the older code.
-
@nibor in my country the companies average and median salaries are disclosed publicly, i’ve been getting a median salary as a pretty junior-early mid dev. Now i’ll be getting an upper 25% average. They werent screwing me per se
-
It’s not a contract, nothing is signed yet. It works a bit different in my neck of the woods 😅
-
I currently work for a startup that is alive for around 10 years, they are cash positive for all of that time, i receive an average wage here, but i feel like i’ve been stagnatig for a while now and noones pushing me to improve me too much. I can use whatever technologies I want and improve the products in a way i think it would improve them, but noone is pushing me to do it. I will have a talk with the ceo about wage increase, but I’m not sure if they can match the bigger companies offer. I’m scared of the big company - possible bureaucracy and lack of skill, with imposter symdrome sprinkled on top..
I currently don’t need-need the money as I live waay under my means, and my current wage is around market average, I save around 60% of my income, and I’m hustling freelance after work. The only goal of mine is to buy a house. The pay increase would just cut down on the time necessary to reach my goal, but there is always risk involved in switching jobs.. :( -
@Redders the thing is that i’m currently working as a lone developer in a company that has a lot of devs, but all of them code in different language. Whenever I’m stuck with a problem I’m left on my own woth google and SA. So I think I don’t need hand holding, but i feel like a lack a lot of fundamental knowledge. I’m getting an imposter syndrome.. :(
-
@Redders I was honest, but they didn't make a technical interview with me. I'm afraid that i don't know good OOP practices and design patterns. I don't use interfaces, inheritance, and so on on a daily basis. Our code base is much simplyer. How much would you think that could hinder me in the new job?
They develop primarily with symphony.. -
@heyheni noone calls at my work@heyheni noone uses calls as a form of communication at my work
-
@alexbrooklyn i despise wordpress, thats the problem
-
@Fast-Nop it actually is, but purchasing higher end items is much less attainable then for the western folk, which is a downer.. Economies of scale I guess
-
@cognoscente well, depends on what you consider high, I'm from eastern Europe, so my salary is probably laughable compared to the western standards.
-
@AleCx04 i need to complete a prototype in 2 weeks while having a fulltime job, leaning new labguages is not an option
-
Workbench is shit, i use sequel pro and it’s great
-
They made a killing with the grumpy cat merch though
-
@heyheni
that codebase would be so far doomed... :D -
its a tracker server, it gets ~1.5 mil req/hour and it was my task to optimise it because it couldn't handle the requests at around 0.8m/req/h. We were using php to parse every request, but with the help of a system admin i remade it so it would load a static page instead of parsing every request, and I'm parsing the apache log for all the get's every hour with php,a few optimisation tweaks and sql insert concat methods. It's starting to bog down again because of how many concurrent connections it has.
-
@Krokoklemme ehm.. that is a rolling log :D a days worth :D
