You did well in jumping from the ship. Fuck them.
Also a protip: if they are a company big enough, see what it's been said about them on Glassdoor. -
@configurator I had someone call me after I did an art test and a short interview with them, and they literally said "the two other candidates did better than you"
Not sure what hurts more: being told you're not good enough or never hearing back from the company after their initial interest. -
@riteshx95 Nope. We're in the same timezone. Just a little under and still smoky from all the fires.
-
@riteshx95 I am not. But I do wish I lived there.
-
Funny how before and during the interviews the companies are all nice and reachable, but if you're not good enough for them you get cold auto-rejection emails, often without giving room to reply back.
For this company I did an extensive art test (one of those that are multiple tests in one). I got a auto-rejection email back thanking me for visiting their studio and performing the art test there.
I was never at their studio. Which is in another country. Everything was done online. I replied back letting them know, they sent an half-assed apology. For all the work I had you could taken your time to send me a proper rejection letter!
And this is why even if I ditch freelancing and go back at applying for studios, I will say no to art tests. Either you like my portfolio and trust me, or it's something that can be done in a single hour, or you pay for the hours I spend on the test. -
"Go see your grandma, she is *°~family~°* and you are a terrible person if you don't."
*goes see grandmother*
"Oooh, you got out of your hole to come see me?"
*decline to visit her for a month, repeat* -
>"messy cables"
Haha. Hahahah.
I have a collection of ipod/iphone chargers that are fire hazards in their current condition. All the innards exposed.
Meanwhile, the usb cables used for everything else not only last for years but can be reused for other devices.
Of course Apple is going wireless. Their cables are awful. -
I hate how some clients still demand everything to be done in Illustrator. It's one of the reasons I haven't kicked off the bloated CS6 from my PC yet.
Affinity Designer is turning up to be a great alternative. It's still missing some stuff that Illustrator has (mesh gradients, pattern creator, etc) but it's so much easier to work with. Plus I can sketch directly on it as opposed to sketch on Photoshop then export to Illustrator. -
@LordDjigo ... Not her first Jam and yet she participates with no laptop and no basic knowledge gained between events?
I could still understand the "no laptop" part if she didn't have the finances for one, but you're telling me she has been in other jams and didn't get a clue of how things are developed nor paid attention to other game artists?
Good grief. I'm unable to find a single pixel of sympathy for her. -
@nerd-san Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or serious.
There's a fine difference between "artist who is just starting out and doesn't have good art yet" and "has no bloody clue what they are doing and art is definitely not their field."
And I say this as someone who often tells people to just grab a pencil and sketch daily if they want to learn to draw.
@LordDjigo over 25? She's either more of a traditional artist who's more comfortable with canvas and brushes than digital media (and nothing wrong with that), or she really went to the event with zero clue of what to do. I know some are just starting out but knowing a little about the basics goes a long way. -
- Have adblocker enabled by default.
- Go to a website.
- Website either has messages in the place of the ads asking you to please turn off adblocker (non-invasive) or have an overlay blocking the content of the page (invasive)
- Nod as you understand keeping websites online costs money and the content producers would like to be paid somehow.
- Disable adblocker, revisit the website as you feel a little better about yourself.
- Toss away your headphones due to a loud video ad set to auto-play. Close the new ad overlays. Realize the article you are trying to read is split in parts divided by distracting ads and when you reach the end you accidentally click on a shitty taboola ad whose css is just like the one for the "read other articles" part.
- Reenable adblock, vow to never visit the website again and hope they go bankrupt. -
I thought those red circles on the frog's face were his eyes.
Good grief, is your artist 10 years old? What makes one think this person totally has the skills to be part of a game creation challenge if she doesn't even have a computer?
This goes beyond getting an artist or even coder who's just starting and learning. -
It's obviously the second one.
-
Well, it certainly has my curiosity. How well does the screen do as a drawing surface compared with the surface pro? Because those specs for that price? It's tempting.

Get a contract signed before any work done

No full payment up to x days after the job is done means no rights of use for the client. -
That goddamn switch.
I killed my first PC because of it. I was young and naive. The PC was slow to boot for some reason, mother kept protesting about it since she used the PC too, so I was trying to find a quick solution.
Flipping a red switch is never the solution. -
@theScientist What does that have got to do with being able to identify an overcooked egg?
And why are you assuming I'm a "lady"? Because of the avatar?
I could be two midgets inside a suit while the one on top is holding a pair of grapefruits. -

I believe your dev is not only writing code on a text editor, they are also a unicorn.

I'm a fan of the Solarized color scheme, both dark and light versions. Even customized my IRC client with those colors back when I still used it.
-
I feel you. My soon-to-be ex-client decided to start a company and was very stubborn with the name he picked. Nevermind that there were no social media handles available for what he wanted (resorting to adding extra words) or that there are at least five other companies/groups/stores with the same name.
-
That isn't an excuse. Whoever made this has never heard of mask layers and "clip inside".
But I bet most photos provided came pasted inside a word document with the size of a stamp. -
They tried.
-
I think it's more "When you do all the work for your group project -and- still assist the other group with a minor task."

Outsource it to the highest bidder, put the bill on company expenses.

She will be ready when the machines take over.

Depends. How have they treated you in the past and how desperate are they?
-
I wonder what null sounds like.

Are you trying to make the designers hidden among the devs in devrant to scream like banshees?
