But everyone knows that you use cellphones for bombs, just like in the movies. Laptops are too expensive to waste on blowing them up pfff.
-
@ChappIO I agree, though as a current student, my professors (understandably) require descriptive commenting. My personal projects have proper names to inherently clean up the readability of the code.

Hope I got better teachers this year ;)

@cptSpades the cheap burgers were just 11am-7pm the one day in celebration of their 50th birthday in Canada.

@Sleepy-guy it was Wolf Warrior
@luminousnine that may or may not have been how I was watching it -
I believe Firefox has an option to allow you to override site settings and therefore zoom in/out everywhere.
Of the modern desktop browsers, Firefox is my favourite. Chrome eats RAM at a rate exponential to Firefox. Edge.... is Edge; it sorta gets the job done, but no one's happy about it.
With that said, I'm all for Chrome on mobile. Wonder why their memory management is so much better for Android than Desktop? I can have 200 tabs open on my phone, but more than 15 tabs on my computer and stuff slows. -
Good luck! I went through something similar and it turned out great!
-
Happened with me, and it would take so long to sort out that I just installed all the necessary software to do the changes myself (assuming they were relatively straightforward modifications). Saved me a lot of time.
-
I've been doing this for weeks now, writing our operations manual.
-Can include technical writing on resume? (check) -
I can taste the rainbow now, just wish I didn't have to see it!

The real rant is in his pastebin.

@arturgrigio I can understand vim + terminal, though that should underscore the importance for consistency and following some kinda standard. Makes my OCD tingle.
-
Don't most IDEs have some feature that makes syntax/spacing consistent? It's what I do (first thing) when working with a group; convert all their code to my preferred format.
-
Do the boring, "required" stuff (aka the degree) so employers see you have the discipline for a MS at school. Outside of school, do all the fun things that will make you stand out (build robots & put the designs on things like Instructables, make code for that robot and put it on git platforms). From my experience, once you get through the door with the degree, they care most about what tangible things you have done (have a portfolio with examples of what you've applied your knowledge towards).

Personally, I learned a huge amount about how and why computers work the way they do THROUGH the process of learning to program. Dealing with low-level languages teaches you immeasurable amounts about how even electronics work. From there, understanding things like VPN was a (relative) piece of cake.
With that said, I agree with you about teaching people more about technologies they use everyday. Sadly, so many people have zero interest in doing so. -
Alias rm to mv and write a script to empty the folder periodically.
Also learned this the hard way. Best(Worst). Lesson. Ever. -
@azous I was being generous ;)

@Russian who needs sleep when you have Factorio? Seriously though, this game has an inverse relationship to hours of sleep. And we all love that about it ;-)
-
The current research I'm running takes 6000 green/red/yellow/blue/military! See you in a few weeks
-
I code in C, C++ (& Arduino, which is really C), and some scripting (Bash and Perl). I have done web programming, but it doesn't interest me in the slightest.
-
I took a food break from playing it and read this. Golden.

Best advice I ever received in this regard is to just apply anyway. Even if you're nowhere near the qualification requirements. If you make an impression, they might keep you in mind for another position in the future, or even change the scope of the position they're filling and decide to take a chance on you.
-
I started programming at 28, and now am going for a BSc in CS. You'll love it! I really get motivated by programming electronics, so I suggest that you set some achievements and revel in the satisfaction once you have successfully completed them. Repeat :-)
-
Oh procrastination, you taste so so sweet.
-
@eedrawso thanks for the congrats :-) I'm hoping the skills from Anth will add to my skills from CS, so maybe I'll be a more well-rounded developer.
-
@stefano go to www.sparkfun.com they have a weather shield which you can connect sensors too. For a more general option, look at the Arduino Inventor's Kit. www.adafruit.com is also an excellent resource. Both sites have Arduino and Raspberry Pi stuff.
-
@Eariel I knew there were no jobs directly related to it (field work and similar), but I thought perhaps the soft skills learned (research, writing, talking with people) would have gotten me further.
-
If I didn't end my day scrolling through the hilarity on devRant, I might get closer to 8 hours of sleep.
