@explosiveaction yeah, I often think of driving past work and just seeing where I end up
-
@tahnik why? just give them limited access to WordPress's dashboard
seems like an awful lot of work to create a new dashboard when one is already pre-made. -
@tahnik the website you make will be user friendly to the average user. however the client will be making changes in WordPress which is very streamlined to not be confusing, making WordPress user friendly.
-
@tahnik sounds like WordPress would be more user friendly then
-
best rant 😂
-
@Linux and @LocalHost are by far the best I've seen. sad I went with my default one and not one like this!
-
happened yesterday...
client came in request a flash site and we told him no and gave him reasons and showed him what kind of site Wed design for him instead.
a week later he gets with our pm and requests the flash site again -
been at the same company for 4 years now doing the same stuff since I started. and while I'm going to Google less since I started its still fairly common. my boss who's owned the business for 12 years told me when I started "if you don't know, Google it" because after 12 years of owning his own company he still has to Google shit.
-
@h3ll he only lasted about 7 months thankfully
-
@thatcoolguyrob most of job is fixing bugs on production sites and calling clients, not much I can do locally
-
@heyheni don't get cell service...
-
anyone with "the next big thing"
-
i run and maintain about 30 wp sites myself. no complaints here except for how easy it is
-
@Folkmann maybe partition a small section of your server for centOS to learn it and test it all out? personally i think it's way better for a server unless you're running a pure media server
-
@Folkmann maybe try CentOS?
-
what are you running on it and what is it for?
-
@bluehiro give us some examples?
-
"item1"
"item2IGuess"
"fuckThisSection"
"killMePlease" -
@Oceas very rarely do we do custom applications since pretty much always "there's a plugin for that"
-
thank you! ❤
-
congratulations! 😸

digging the lava lamp

wait for the new Apple event then buy the old MacBook as it will drop in price
-
@Oceas "custom" for us means functionality outside either CMS scope or plugins. in which case we build a PhP based platform ourselves. if you'd like hit me up on Kik (@SnowyLoli) and I'll happily go into depth on some projects
-
for me and my company it depends on functionality and goals. we deal with mostly small business websites so we design custom themes for either WordPress or Joomla depending on what the client wants.
of course if a client comes up to us and wants something very custom we don't bother with a CMS because it just gets in the way. -
mind sending the source for the background? I love it
-
@pardeike for the better. I'm a one man team and have been for the past 4 years at my company.
-
@pardeike I should for the sake of if my company ever hires another developer. I'd feel sorry for anyone who has to open my files and wonder what the fuck 5 blank lines represents
-
@pardeike I program a tad oddly (probably because I just learned by reading each syntax and what it did) but I never comment so ill use indentation and occasionally blank spaces to help separate my code because if I try to comment and it's like
"section 2 partB I think??" -
@dev-nope there are plenty of times where I want to just move 1 tab over to remove un-needed indentation because I cleaned up my code
