Not only is our Project Manager a windbag who goes around disturbing devs. He also doesn't do what he's supposed to do. I just noticed that some stories I've delivered to test like weeks ago, are still not assigned to someone to test! I mean, WTF?! What's the point of developing anything if it's never released because of a sloppy/lazy PM who doesn't pull his shit?! :(
I'm so looking forward to this project finally being over so we can move forward, dropping some dead weight. External consultants are not cheap, and there are way better contenders in-house. Most of my colleagues are truly amazing :) -
@usr--2ndry I totally agree. And yes, the atmosphere on most Linux user forums I've seen, is indeed not the most welcoming. It's like "I use this geeky, exclusive OS called Linux. Any other OS is mainstream and therefore trash, and their users are lamers. Don't you dare come here messing up our fine community with your noob questions." That sort of "friendly" attitude is what has kept me away from Linux. That, plus whatever you want to do on Linux, you need to first compile or even code a bunch of drivers. I don't want to work in my sparetime.

@Grumm Yeah, I know that, but I want the week number on the week itself so I can immediately see what week I'm on, not having to shift my eyes between the week and the month, and map the dates of the week to the corresponding dates in the month calendar.
-
And...he did it again. "murmur...murmur..that issue with that network resource you need access to, is this something I can help with?"
No! You're a project manager, *not* a dev or tech or anybody else with any skills to "help" with anything. If you'd bother to actually read the jira issue, you'd see I've already put the infra guys on the issue. They can help me. You're not helping me. Barging in here to disturb me is the opposite of helping! -
@lungdart That's a very good suggestion! It's just that I have this condition that makes it almost impossible for me to lie.

In Swedish it would be artist. (art=species)

If Roblox were a dev platform to be taken seriously, they wouldn't trust first-gen chat bots with all of their support. Also, they would hire competent infra staff to ensure their servers wouldn't go down more often than not. But if you take Roblox for what it is, namely a toy, then it's a lot of fun for trying out some ideas and play around with.

*lol* -
@darksideofyay
I know. When I first got to use Telerik I hated it, but that was before I got across SAP Crystal Reports. Suddenly Telerik was a breeze in comparison. -
@joewilliams007 Idk where the heck they come from, but I mean these guys: https://www.sap.com
-
...and two years later I'm still using PHP :)
-
Life is a bith and then you marry one. Anyway, things can only get better now :D
-
As for VS Code, this is the problem I'm talking about: https://github.com/Microsoft/...
-
Yup, here's one :)
-
@norman70688 Good point, I can buy that :)
-
@monr0e Good point, but the one hour or two only applies if you know exactly what firmware you need/want. And there's always the worry of breaking something. Would, for example, any other firmware than LG's specific one for WineSmart support a keypad? (touchscreens are useless to me). Also, keep in mind that we are devs and perhaps a little more techy than the average user. My point is that users shouldn't need to bother about unlocking and flashing their device...that's simply too much DIY. A consumer device such as a phone should just work at least OK out of the box.
-
@py2js Also true :) It's a tradeoff. Too little control and you get spam. Too strict and you put off even legitimate posts.
-
@simulate Sure. Problem is that whatever question I have, it's already been asked (asking duplicate questions won't earn me any rep ;)), and whatever questions I could answer have already been answered... :) It's a little like a pyramide game really. Early adopters have had the chance to contribute and gain rep, while newcomers get the crumbs that fall under the table.
-
@zokazavevu Yet, they are both based on users logging in posting and commenting. As for the community functionality they can be compared.
-
@zokazavevu They are both some sort of web communities addressing devs.
-
@TerriToniAX Oh I forgot, there's also Doro but that's crap for real.
-
@Crapple I didn't have much choice as LG is the only make with a clam shell Smart phone with buttons, at least in my market.
-
@monr0e Because I don't have the time nor interest in tinkering with my mobile phone. I just want it to work.

Last night I had no connection at all - on the ADSL modem. Fortunately there was no problem with the 4G so I could use my mobile phone as access point. It was actually notably faster than my "landline". No wonder, 300 Mbps! I've always thought mobile internet was slow and unstable, but was proven wrong :)
-
@netikras And from C++ you can fast move upwards to C# with Lambda expressions and other heart-warming dev goodies.
-
@Pseudonymous Never heard about this hat thing. The only coloured hat I know of is Red Hat Linux, is it in any way related?
-
@nin0x03 Same here. "Cracker" for evil hackers ;) Then again, I'm also from a strange and remote corner, although I didn't yet have any "net" at that time, for many years to come.
-
Yes. IMHO, C is definitely the best language to start with. It's high-level enough even for beginners to understand, yet low-level enough to let you do anything you want - as well as giving you a solid understanding of the fundaments, such as data types, pointers, memory allocation... Higher level languages, like the ones you mentioned, and frameworks hide away waht really happens under a thick layer of dynamic typing, garbage collection and other magic. Great for productivity, but useless if you really want to learn how the computer actually deals with your instructions.

@Tommy314 Mine was Acer too.
