Aah sorry, they brand it as a 'sophisticated' text editor, not modern..
Well I guess it is also too sophisticated for their devs to support typing RTL languages...(yes they do have a feature request, and the reason for it not being implemented is this. https://forum.sublimetext.com/t/... )
Well fuck it.. VSCode here I come. -
@FahadAlt
Yeah I know, I use it when I'm working with translations.
But sublime text and windows for example are in my 'comfort zone'... It sucks yeah, but whatever. -
@gronostaj
Sure, text should display like the following:

@monkeyboy I can agree with you if it was a windows software. That you're not required to port to other Operating Systems.
However, as a website that's supposed to run everywhere, it's unacceptable to be limited to IE11, which Microsoft themselves stopped supporting.
Which not only gives bad UX, it's also vulnerable to many security holes. -
So what you're saying, unless a big data breach happens there is no chance that a government website will be updated?
Now like I said previously, it is simply unacceptable for a website, a critical day to day government website, to be unsupported on modern major browsers.
I don't think the bureaucracy plays any part in the process, rather knowing my government, it's probably corruption at play here.
For a country that is compared to Silicon Valley, lacking in this aspect is scandalous. -
@monkeyboy do you work for a government entity? :D
Jokes aside, I'm really struggling to understand your logic...
It's an outdated browser with no support from anywhere, not even the community, why still use it? It's a security risk above all other reasons, and government websites should actually prevent you, not force you to use it.
Let's take an example about a startup building their website with Flash. Now that Adobe has announced it's death... Will that startup keep on using it or move to other stuff? Regardless of the costs.
You simply cannot stay in 2007 when we're already in 2020. -
@M1sf3t it's still a huge workaround for an airtight closed ecosystem. It sucks. Developers shouldn't have to go through all that or just buy a macbook because apple wants it that way. Thats fucking monopoly, not Google or microsoft's shenanigans.
Want to develope android apps on mac? Sure install Android Studio and you're good to go!
How hard is it for a billion dollars company to develope a working IDE for other Operating systems?? -
I have yet to see an example where an upgrade to online softwares actually managed to hurt a company or a gov. entity. On the contrary, it helps relocate your occupied assets working on that particular service to other places.
In a time where I really don't have to go anywhere near a bank, restaurant, store etc and still get the service I want, while the government lacks in this aspect is utterly unacceptable in this modern world, and the fact we do nothing about it is rather shocking.
For this particular case, I pay as high as 30% of my job income, and as high as 40% of my freelance jobs in taxes. Now I don't complain much, I do get other services( like health) for 'free', I would expect to have a simple website to support something other than IE. -
If it's just a new framework, I probably already know the basics as they all have something in common. I just start building what I want straight away and figure things out with the docs. Saves time.
New language? I'll start with a todo app to get my head around the syntax and stuff.. Probably follow along with a youtube tutorial -
I salute your bravery sir.

@M1sf3t
For windows?
Please point me to one because I couldn't find shit. -
I use it sometimes, especially dealing with data from API, because who knows what some new BE team member decides an endpoint should return..
The best way to solve it however is to provide developers with a function similar to PHP's empty($var) -
And they don't provide a simulator either..
Want to develope a cross platform app while being an android owner? Go fuck yourself
HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE AN iOS P.O.C TO CLIENTS, APPLE, HUH?? -
@Jilano That's what I learned from devrant actually.
I created a 'fake' PR and deployed... And everything magically passed QA -
@bahua
Well, I guess yes -
@AlgoRythm
Yep, though the server side kept setting the auth cookie back automatically(laravel and vuejs)
@NoToJavaScript
True and false, you have to set the access token somewhere and probably some data about user.. Clearing that effectively means logging out from FE, atleast on an interface level -
Thats the thing, I implemented everything on both ends, just didn't connect them.
Simply didn't revoke the token -
Throwing them at the deep end is what will burn him out.
Show him the basics, let him get comfortable with the syntax and help him look at the task at hand as a problem that needs a solution.
Once he gets that and you feel he's ready, start by giving him really simple tasks, like bug fixes or something.
Did he make a mistake? Don't tell him, instead show him a better solution.
And most importantly, always be patient with him, even when he asks stupid questions. -
@bols59 so what was the problem?
-
Found the original story on Theverge if anyone is interested.
News websites really only care about reads and not what the actual research was about or what it found..
https://theverge.com/2019/7/... -
@Root I completely misinterpreted what you meant by fingerprinting and understood it as fingerprint auth.
Yes I know you can collect very sensitive data about a user and build an identity. -
Just to be clear, I really don't care about google tracking my porn preferences. I was only commenting or the stupid shit the writer wrote...
And I also don't think JS can access your fingerprint data directly, hell I can't get basic device info with JS.. Can you elaborate? -
No don't think so.
But looks like you somehow loaded mobile styles on desktop? -
Because the user is dumb, and there will always be someone who shuts down the PC by mistake if it's presented as a default shortcut and then will blame the manufacturer.
-
Shouldn't the opacity decrease to make it fade though?
-
@Haxk20 well fuck, I might aswell prepare my resignation letter.
On a more serious note, most of the shit I deleted was a 5 years worth of server logs... I mean, who the fuck needs those?? -
The fact that it's already 9+ hrs and still no fix deployed makes me wonder what their engineers are getting paid to do??
-
@sbiewald the website is: https://foldingathome.org/
He wrote com instead of org -
So wait, we're not supposed to merge our own PR's??
-
Then by all means, do consult with a labour lawyer and make sure your manager understands that he can't fire you as a 'revenge' for knowing your rights.
Good luck mate
