I'm on my first job and I've been working here for 3/4 years, part time.
What have I missed as a junior developer? I would have liked someone to tell me: if you can't figure out something in X time ask someone. I didn't have a metric for this and I'm sure sometimes I've wasted time, I've learned yes but for the company it would have been better if I asked for help sooner.
We should also remember that not every dev is a good teacher, while everyone at my company is super patient and helpful not all of my colleagues are the best teachers. -
I've never liked coffee but I started drinking it at breakfast (one espresso with milk actually) and since I started my headaches and migraines have also disappeared.
I also drink one cappuccino after lunch.
I get no energy boost from coffee but that's ok 😊 -
As a part time software developer and part time student I get it too well!
My 2cents try to wake up early and study.
In the morning you are more rested and have more willpower.
Keep the fun things for the afternoon :) -
@tiuscia so perfect!

I need the umarell 🤩
-
@tacticalKimchi @refex LG ultrafine 5k 27MD5KA you can find it on the apple store.
I read around of people now posting their setup because there are a lot of super cool setup posted. My setup might not have a ton of screens but it's hella expensive. Il
Screen, MacBook, desk and chair have been provided by my company, I don't have that much extra money to spend 😂
The keyboard (yes it's a Microsoft sculpt ergonomic) was a gift from my boyfriend, and I love it so much 😍 -
@ausername yes.
Long story short the teams are fluid and I moved from web development to windows development. But in the future I might go back to web.
It made no sense to ask for a new laptop, and I prefer having windows in dua boot than using a VM 😄 -
I work for a remote first company.
Dev team mostly works 9-6 and that's what I do too. We're very flexible.
The Only thing is that since we have some teams on the other side of the world there's the "golden hour" where everyone is online and most meetings are (5 to 6 for me) -
@Krokoklemme yes exactly that one, it's not hard to remember if you use it often... But it's stuff that I would Google if I didn't remember it at work...
We actually used a reduced version of c++ because... I've no idea actually. Crazy stuff happens at Italian universities 😂 -
@Herry yes and I was fine with it in high school but in university? If you want me to write on paper at least don't ask for c++ but pseudo code instead😅
Or if I have a specific question about a library call just answer -
@craig939393 never heard of a magnet sort 😂 I would have done like you did

1)If your colleagues have time ask to do a pair programming session every now and then, on code you have ti bug fix or new features you have to develop.
Change up who you pair programming buddy is, different people will be experts in different things and will think/code in different ways.
I learn a bunch that way.
2) don't be afraid to ask for help, it's a new environment. Don't stay stuck on a problem for too long
3) learn from your mistakes. You'll do a bunch of then some small some big, just make sure it's always a different mistake never do the same one twice.
