@Jilano She wasn't the most talked about person of the year though. As much as I dislike the guy, it was definitely Trump. The entire world was talking about him from start to finish this whole year. Greta Thunberg really only showed up way late into the year in terms of highly talked about.

Hey now, I'm sure you're popular, don't be disheartened!
-
Minimalistic as hell. I'm tired of clunky browsers that are hard to use without precision finger control.
Good luck!! -
That's pretty *lit*.

That doesn't sound right at all...

Here's a follow-up question.
Do these companies not, in their privacy policies and terms and conditions statements, not legally attempt to make us aware of the collection of our information?
It's not tiny text, the links to these documents is clear and evident.
Can we blame the company if we agree to these statements without taking our time to look at them like we could?
A possible argument for this might be the complicated language used in the documents but isn't that still our fault if we don't read it properly?
Say I'm a stationery store owner and I gave a scissor to a student old enough to handle one for their work, and I told them to read the safety guidelines on the notice board. They don't and they end up stabbing someone. Is that my fault, then?
Then, the only time we can blame these companies is when they don't mention it to the customer and do it anyway without consent. Is there any evidence of this? -
@legionfrontier I see, that's a good talk to look at. Thank you for responding, I think I've got the jist of it now.

Besides water, you shouldn't be *obligated* to have anything else. Water, only because it's necessary for your health.
Don't be that kind of person who thinks they deserve everything and all these benefits are just obviously needed. If you want it that badly, look harder for a company that provides them. Otherwise, deal. -
You can't really hate a platform that is meant to improve accessibility because some people abused it and made some stupid pieces of work.
That's like hating people because some people are criminals.
The platform has potential and if used right, is a great tool. That won't really change, even if an idiot is using it.
Let's stop blaming tools and start blaming people, please. -
You can't really tell if they're sweating if they're wearing a suit, to be fair. I've done that, and yeah, I sweat as hell but it rarely if ever shows.

Commenting isn't really important if it's a fun, personal, standalone project but if you're working in a team or think you'd use your code later on, it's vital.
I see so many rants about not being able to understand another developer's code or how some people write such shit, but I think with proper documentation a lot of blood could have been left unboiled.
I recommend you get into the habit of leaving comments wherever you have a section of code that you had to think about to write, even in small one-time projects. It's a good trait to have if you ever plan on going further into large scale projects where teams and/or code reusability are necessary. -
Opera. I use WhatsApp a lot.

Unless you're in research, you're not really changing the world. Unless you're building something that will blow up to affect the lives of the human race, you're not *really* changing the world.
Be proud of what you are and what you do (we all are), but don't get ahead of yourself. That applies to everyone, programmer or not.
Don't convince yourself you're greater than everyone else or you're "special". You don't want to be _that_ Tumblr. -
@icycrash If you're not getting paid for it, and you don't enjoy it, and it's not worth your time at all, then don't go...
-
I never did understand this. I've always been more productive when I stay up late and wake up a bit later too.
I guess everyone's different but this seems to be highly recommended. I'm not just blabbering though, I have tried it for a month or so and it just didn't work for me. :!
Still though, if this is what works for you, I hope you make it happen! -
@Robsonstc See, you shouldn't be forced into it at all. That said, that's just how the world works. If the people you work with enjoy those things, you have to make an active effort to try and join in too. You don't want to be alienated and miss out on opportunities.
-
I dunno, really. I don't think anyone can teach you "programming" anyway. Syntax? Sure. Languages? Certainly. Logical thinking? Not really.
You have to kind of just go at it and fail a bit and figure out what you can do, learning as you go. Otherwise what you end up being is another one of those syntax memorisers (pretend it's a word here) who can spew jargon but can't really code the solution to a tough problem. -
Professionalism is great but if you think making personal connections at work is a bad thing, I'm sorry to burst your bubble but that's a terrible mindset to keep.
Taking the time and making an effort to talk to and get closer to people from work outside of work will only increase the opportunities you will come across.
Don't be that guy. Humans are social. That's how it works, really. -
@icycrash And yet, that's your job and she's your source of income. In a world like ours, biting the hand that feeds you is the quickest way to starve.

@Gaetano96 installing a new keyboard on Android takes a lot of getting used to, turns out!

Pattern recognition can be in two ways. One is a simple identification of a preset instance of an object. That's easy enough and requires little to no real AI aspects.
The other is the ability for the program to actively recognise new patterns as new ones, learn them and recall them when they need to. If this is what you want to do, and you need to look for advice on DevRant on where to begin learning about AIs, I recommend you don't attempt this project.
There may be lots of AIs coming out nowadays but they aren't made by people new to the concepts. They are made by large teams consisting of experts on the topic who know what they have to do.
I don't recommend you give up entirely but slow down a bit. You can't build a house if you don't know what dead loads are. You can't build a ship if you don't know what buoyancy is.
Start small, learn these concepts little by little and one day, when you do have the expertise to do so, build your floating house. -
You shouldn't have a partner if you find it stressful. Relationships are not, and nor do I ever wish they were, and nor should they ever be, stressful, as with any relationship.
Girlfriends aren't stressful if you're meant to have them. In fact, they're the opposite. They're what help you relax and realise there are things in the world better, at times, than work. -
Get over it, relax. You're not a military department with nuclear codes. Take ordinary precautions and it won't matter if they see what kind of things you're into.
-
I'm sorry but it's kind of sad for me to see tech support, which I'm assuming you are to some extent to have to drive to provide tech support, talk about their customers like this. Some people are bad with computers and some downright moronic, but they are still your customers. You have no right to insult them. If they bother you so, don't serve them. End of story. You asking someone with a degree in quantum mechanics a question they would consider trivial is akin to what happened to you today. You aren't a god, you don't know it all.
You're knowledge and skills don't make you a better person, you're actions and attitude could.
I suppose this isn't very related to DevRant either but hey, rants are rants! -
@MissDirection Thank you!
