Wtf

@alexbrooklyn the funny one. Just imagine, your boss, secretary, developers, cleaning service, everyone doing the Harlem shake
-
Drop some acid in the coffee machine.
-
@deviloper Correct me if I'm wrong, but the fact that COBOL usually is used in mission-critical software such as bank's transaction engine requires at least a bit of engineering.
I have the feeling that nowadays 90% of listed jobs are more like slamming the keyboard until something works and pushing immediately into production to keep the customers hooked.
No engineering.
No quality.
No realistic self-reflection of responsible "managers" and owners living luxurios lives of your misery, burnouts and forced unpaid overtime. -
Well, did they offer an appropriate monetary compensation for moral pain and headache maintaining COBOL applications?
I purposefully had a look at COBOL for an internal, non-listed position at a bank knowing I'd earn much much more than I used to. -
Could you post a JIF please?
-
@spacemarshall this is the main reason I'm using a hackintosh.
Proper unix + commercial software such as ms office, lightroom, Photoshop, etc. -
@JackToolsNet thanks
-
Thanks for sharing. When I was in school, I worked on my own programming language and started to turn the interpreter into an optimizing compiler, until my hard disk died completely and the windows server having the backups. On the same day!
Back then I could not even dream about buying the dragon book. 100€+... -
@Gregozor2121 like I said, it has multiple meanings. One of them is a female dog.
-
@icycrash synonym. Bitch (dog), bitch (human), and whore (human).
-
"suka". In Russian it means "whore". 🤔 What language is it?
-
@thatguyatwork I got tons of offers without having graduated. Studied though to have possibilities for the future. A degree is a must have for tasks going beyond painting the button red, which usually is 90% of the development today.
-
More like: why the hell did I torture myself voluntarily. Noone gives a fuck about degrees.
-
But... But you're the wizard of bits and bytes, ready to work unpaid overtime, and the PM wants his bonus!
-
@12bitfloat really? I'd expect an exception description in the throws segment. And the border case -1 in the return section.
-
@12bitfloat throws + return code = javadoc gang-rape.
I'm not a Java guy. But this smells like the WC after one hour session of a special ex-colleague with a special diet. -
And, of course, native language instead of English. Why would you introduce empty lines AND keep curly braces in the same line as the operation? Perfect example of NOT good code.
-
My eyes 😵 How would you enforce this stupid ternary operator notation?
-
@unsignedint SDD - sales driven development.
-
Run
-
@alexbrooklyn should have tried that when I ranted about the broken PR :P
-
The only emoji developers should use:

I prefer light themes. Light on dark stresses my eyes more than the dark on light themes. The display is never too bright, mainly because of blue light reduction and the ability to afford additional light sources to compensate outdoor light fluctuations. Duh. Fuck me, right?
-
What I'd definitely change:
- apply for a lesser renowned but nearby university instead of struggling at an "elite" uni because you either spend all your "free" time commuting or need 2-3 jobs to pay rent, food, etc. From a different perspective its not that bad - the gained experience as a developer helped me more than the actual degree.
- attend to more business oriented courses.
- more networking. -
@Root that sucks even more. Bankruptcy and a ltd, hahahaha.
In any case I, too, see no future for my former employer. Every 2-3 years entire teams run away. Massive technical debt. Massive customer dissatisfaction. Massive employee dissatisfaction. But the bosses diversified their assets in estates and offshore companies, and having a limited, they don't have to fear for their property. Assholes. Clever assholes. -
@2erXre5 nothing to worry about. The law is pretty clear. Already talked to a lawyer to clarify further steps.
-
@2erXre5 they paid only the salary and "forgot" about the extra deal we had. They owe me a lot of money and some documents.
-
@ymas he wrote it in the team-shared chat. First, I had to read everything and find his stuff in piles of gibberish blubber bullshit. And second: he did not mention the PR to be broken. He asked to review a PR. Which turned out to be the new PR when you click on the pasted link. No further information. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🖕🖕🖕🤷♂️

@ShotgunSurgeon Canceling my holiday. Either I take the (ridiculous) bonus they offer me and work 2 weeks longer (good way) or I work 2 weeks longer (bad way), I get sick, they get mad, I sue them, they sue back, whatever..
