I have had managers who do this. Never really understood how they can estimate a delivery deadline when they have ZERO development work to do. Like, what're you afraid of? We are gonna take extra time to implement something quality and robust and prevent ourselves from having a burnout?

I know I'm a noob, but this reminded me of the time where I was writing some code in Java and invoked the garbage collector from code. Eclipse threw me a warning saying "Don't try to be smarter than the JVM, delete this line." I guffawed straight for a minute and brought over my colleague and then we laughed at it together.

I deleted the line, though.

I learnt this the hard way ... never ever ever show anyone that you are capable of doing their job.

This does two things - 1) does not harm their ego, and let's be honest, most of them have a fragile one like a lizard's dick) and 2) they don't get to offload their work on you
