@bigmonsterlover I'm not losing sleep over it or anything. I've already experienced burnout and wouldn't want to experience it again (nor would I wish it on anyone).
But it's definitely a sore point in my day to day and ignoring it isn't really a possibility since it also affects my velocity. -
@Stuxnet the salary is better than the one I have now. I'm just considered about the stability of the company since they could theoretically disappear overnight.
-
@zshh coincidental that you comment on this rant because it happened again this weekend.
The director of tech (my boss), project manager, product director are essentially all working together to make these decisions.
Feels like there's no choice. Please let me know if you have any ideas -
@freeme don't stop! This is just a bad employer and a bad experience! Programming is extremely fulfilling and you'll definitely find a work environment that values you and treats you with respect! 😊

Thank you so much everyone. It really feels nice to get support from you all. I'm worried speaking with the ceo may be problematic considering he was directly involved in the sale of this particular account and will have some sort of "Not my problem just get it done" attitude toward the situation. However, you're all correct in that this needs to be addressed one way or another (again) or it may be time to look for some new work.

@ChappIO for now I'm settling on using a local 2TB drive. Maybe it'll be a good use case for rocker with the multiple large servers? I don't know never tried it :)
https://github.com/pelias/pelias here's the geocoder in question if you'd like to try it out. There's a hosted solution via Mapzen or a link to their main page with instructions on how to self host it -
@ChappIO just started development. Been wanting to do a large mapping project with self hosted and open source tech instead of Google maps.
I haven't even decided what data to put on the map yet. Maybe a live transit map or a Spotify heat map of actively listened songs or something -
@tracktraps @ChappIO want to host my own geocoder which requires a dB of world addresses. Usually ~500gb. Also my own map tiles and map tile server which is a few 100gbs as well
Might be a really expensive side project 😕
Maybe I can descope a lot of this or I'll need to start looking at hosted services (sort of defeating my goal 😢) -
@eskizo nothing is tangible! So hard to make sense of things I love it 😅

Redux is definitely tricky to get a handle on. Have you considered alternatives such as MobX or using local component state management? Dan Abramov, the creator of Redux, has even come out with articles explaining how in most cases and for most smaller projects it's overkill. Otherwise if you're certain you'd like to use it or it's already in the project you're working on check out Dan's videos on Egghead.io. They're free and go in detail as to how Redux works and really demystifies it.
Lastly - any specific problems? -
Fairly good beginner MV* framework in my opinion/experience. Preferred Backbone and lately any project using React as I feel they offer more flexibility and ease

@Jumpshot44 my day job is sales and marketing. Hopefully I can put that to good use in reaching the right audience.
Thanms for your input! 😊 -
This rant made me look up and want to buy a DAS. Thanks!

@benleah thanks for your feedback! I'm currently finishing up a Web app and was planning on beginning work alone to see how far I could get and learn along the way, exactly as you had suggested.
I'll look into the Lean Methodology. I have a solid idea of where to go with this seeing as it's building off of an existing solution, just the approach is unique. -
@r4lph that's my current path! Hoping the part-time evening learning will pay off to an eventful career switch! 😊
