@irene Ubuntu and Elementary OS were the last 2 I tried around a year ago, both had the default GUI, both laggy feeling no matter how powerful the desktop :/
-
@Devnergy as a programmer, I personally still prefer the low input latency/responsiveness of Windows. Even when I'm not gaming, a "slow" UI bugs the shit out of me.
-
Oh back on the topic of the original post, why is it "every" version of Linux(all the distros I've tried) have input lag, or at least it feels like they do. I'm not sure if it's the GUI renderer that's at fault or if the input events are not being used raw from the hardware and instead are going into some queue or w/e but every time I use Linux input always feels a bit jello. I really hate it. ( I've tried on all sorts of hardware as well from medium to really high end, always same problem )
-
@Nanos virtual machines usually don't have the whole bios/UEFI side of things aside from a few tweekable values, so chances are that it wouldn't work well as a way to learn how to dual boot.
-
If/when Linux ever catches up to windows for gaming I'll switch, till then, windows will have to do the trick.
(And by catches up I mean: all games released for Windows can be played on Linux without any annoying hacky fixes AND performance is the same or better while offering the same visuals. High refresh rate gaming with consistent frametimes are really important to me.) -
If the tester finds a bug, they are doing their job... They are supposed to try and break it.
-
@irene ah, in that situation, you could just use one of the various js libraries to convert the div to an image.
-
@irene not sure, what do you mean by voodoo in this context?
-
@lxmcf I mean thats cool and all, but why not just use unity or unreal at that point? I'm assuming performance of 3d wouldn't be great considering 3d is not built directly into GameMaker...
-
Fair enough, I just remember the last time I looked into it it was super basic, 2d, not really programming, but more logic block type stuff...
-
Never really understood why anyone would use game maker over alternatives... I get it if it's for beginners just getting into programming, but beyond that, what use is it?
-
@MrCSharp I've watched the Nvidia/AMD press conferences for years now and it just doesn't seem in character for him to say something like that... I mean I could be wrong, but I don't know, I just don't see it. At least in the way the articles make it sound.
-
@MrCSharp that's what I figured, but what's not to say someone took what he said out of context than other reporters took that even more out of context by wanting to sensationalize their headlines and make them more click-baity that shit happens all the time. 😕
-
I see that as an Nvidia powerplay, they now remove a selling point for AMD while also showing FreeSync has a wide range of different qualities, and that only the top 5% of FreeSync monitors compete with G-Sync visually, showing G-Sync is generally superior to the majority of FreeSync monitors anyway. I don't really see how this is good news for AMD considering FreeSync is a royalty Free open standard, AMD won't make any money off the additional sales of FreeSync displays while more people will pair those displays with Nvidia GPUs.
-
I couldn't find a single video with him saying that, maybe someone just made that up and other sites latched onto it as if it was credible? I'm not saying he didn't say that, just haven't been able to find any actual proof.
-
@Polarina yeah, I had seen that, it's probably the way I'll go. I just thought this was an interesting exercise to go through being that it's more general purpose. And thought ide share my discoveries. Also if I'm not mistaken, the callback is an extension method not available on all platforms. Was thinking this could be a fallback in those situations.
-
@beegC0de lol all good
-
@beegC0de not sure I follow..🤔
-
Here is an example that now supports using external variables internally. Kinda weird to think about considering I'm modifying a variable within a function after the the return statement is called, but before it actually exits...🤔
-
Been messing around with a more generic solution that might be useful elsewhere. Still has the issue as mentioned in the original post though. Also in this example you cannot use any local variables within the ON_EXIT_SCOPE block... Though I think this can be worked around pretty easily. Still looking for any better ways of doing something like this though...
-
@thevariableman nah, visual studio 2017
-
I guess I should also mention, I'm not a massive fan of having to instantiate a stack object and create a generic lambda wrapper for every GL call just to exploit the objects destructor as sort of "onGLCallFinished" callback. Is there a better/cleaner way of setting up this type of behavior?
-
Changed up the struct a bit to be simpler, same idea though...
-
Lol xCode is a joke. It perfectly encapsulates apple as a whole
-
Could simply to if (true) {} then simplify to just the {} is scope is an issue
-
Unless you're forced to work with a mac I just don't get the appeal...sure some simple stuff is intuitive but the same can be said for Windows... And when you get into more advanced stuff, mac is a headache, at least that is what I've found. And even some simple shit is frustratingly unintuitive...
-
Just peel em off and leave them off, they are just ugly marketing material anyway... It's like "wooow ur laptop has HDMI!!!!"... Grays, so does almost every other one...
-
If u know Java u basically know c# there are some minor differences in syntax and you can do operator overloading in c# but for the most part that's about it. Just google whenever you get stuck on something and you'll learn it in no time

If the whole world didn't have internet aside from payment processing for businesses, I think it would be nice. Maybe make it a monthly thing.
