Yeah, 7 is always the best random number.

@Lallilap1991 it is nonsense and it tricks desperate people to gamble away their money on the hope of a bigger fool.
-
@thomas66777 by smart i mean people who are capable of developing and processing complex reasonings. But yeah, that's probably not a helpful usage of "smart"
-
@hitko nope

* Observations gives you that white people, in majority white nations, have a strong tendency to disregard types of harms that exclusively other groups are suffering under.
* Therefore; if we want a better world for everyone, maybe we (of majority groups) should listen to minority groups when they say they are hurting from something we are doing. -
This is an incredibly stupid rant... And I'm not saying that because you are white, im saying it because you are fatally missing the point of the rename.
1. The master/slave dichotomy is commonly associated with chattel slavery in the actual society independently of the intent of those who established it's usage in computer terminology.
2. Due to the hurtful common association for many people, why not change the terminology usage. Using "main" as the default branch does not cost anything (i would even argue that it's more suitable to how branching is commonly used these days)
3. It is racist to say that skin color dictates what you are capable of understanding... Luckily it's only racists that would say something like that. The reasonable people talking about this would probably rather say that:
* Your skin color affects your experience in life.
* Your experiences in life affects what assumptions you use when trying to process new information or arguments -
Fortunately at 2099 there is still 801 years until y3k... 800 years ago genghis khan was roaming the plains and had absolutely no concept of anything that would turn into cron

Those are very much not comparable tools...

@ngCry the people "just not wanting to deal with it" is the reason the laws exist. If they dont want to comply to the laws existing, imagine what they would do without the laws.
But im sure there are some laws that hurt more than they give and those should be critiqued specifically, not by hand waving to all laws coming from the EU -
Which laws would that be?
And how much "innovation" is your human rights worth?
I do agree that the EU should offer free legal and organizational support for small businesses dealing with legislation such as GDPR. Adherence to laws shouldn't be a matter of cost. -
Now tell me an actual use case of that type!
But seriously, C isnt hard because you can write things thar are hard to read... -
Its way to complicated to answer here but its about how the language is compiled
-
Its religious

I used win3.11, xp is still microsofts newer versions of windows
-
@spongessuck what do you imagine their business plan for it is if they aren't going to charge for it?
-
@chachaflint "you're probably just not smart enough to understand it" isn't a good look 🤣
But i agree, currency (and value in general) is a social construct. But the important part here is that it's a construct that is designed as if economy could be modelled as a boardgame. Since it's designed to not be controlled it has to have perfect initial conditions to actually be sustainable.... and not to spoil anything here, but it does not have perfect initial conditions and it's being played as a game where some will win and others will loose.
Obviously this is a problem with capitalism in general when economies are being automated. But by putting control into the hands of The Algo we all loose the capacity to divide our resources fairly. There is a reason why ancaps are more likely to support crypto, it's definitely not politically neutral. -
@jassole wielding a title and actually performing valuable work isn't necessarily correlated and if you can't figure that out I'm sure people will just love working for your enterprise 👌
Have fun and just ping me whenever you're interested in talking about all the topics in this discussion that you just ignored... Those where actually the important ones 😉 -
@jassole it's funny how you don't realize that capitalism is creating its own nobility and a pseudo-feudal society even as you claim that is not what you want to get back to.
The important thing to remember when defending "free markets" is that musk didn't do shit, he got colonial blood money from his family that he invested in others businesses, and in some cases he bought him self a "founder" status but he isn't the brain behind neither Tesla nor space x. His contributions is mostly money and PR. If anything he did was about creating a superior product he would be out on the streets. -
@jassole the free market only works if you fully incorporate the fact that people who can't afford something has no right to it. That's why libertarianism is fundamentally opposed to human rights 🤷♂️
Personally I believe that every human being should have the right to housing, sustenance and education. That is the only way for humans to be actually free. -
@jassole what do you base that assumption on? (It's very wrong but it would be interesting to know why you would think it would work to dismiss my perspective)
-
@jassole libertarianism always means the person with the, proverbial, biggest gun owning the land you stand on. It's fundamentally a pay to play game and if you can't pay you don't deserve to participate.
Late game libertarianism means that it's either taken over by fascists who use the ideals to avoid being criticized or that it's taken over by feudal lord's who in everything but name owns their workers.
Please look at your political view from a historical view and rethink it! -
@iiii cyberpunk-adjecent more like it 😜 i think there are still ways for the situation to become worse...
-
And logically, if you need to make a profit this year you can't really focus too much on building something to be maintainable in 10 years.
-
@jassole yes actually. Capitalism (as is practiced) thrive on those willing to make short term profit and then pivot. Long term investments and/or companies that are profitable over long time (>15 years) are the exceptions, not the norm. A majority of business focus on becoming profitable year by year.
This is the process that makes the cyberpunk dystopic mega corps way too likely btw 🤷♂️ -
If the outcome of the operation doesn't matter it's just way quicker to not do anything at all...
-
@ars1 yeah, but then you have to deploy mongodb and maintain it
-
@Crismon i get what you mean, in my experience it does not work out as soon as you have any amount of new developers being on boarded and start loosing the old ones.
-
@Crismon yeah, self discipline is the lie here. Self discipline doesn't scale.
-
Why the fuck do you *want* to like it. Document databases is a dud, it brings nothing to the table and it's just promoted by JavaScript enthusiasts who thinks schemas are scary.
Sidenote; you always need schemas to ensure maintainability and efficiency, even the mongodb developers know this... It's just the promoters who pretend like you don't. Once you start building schemas for mongodb you are always better off doing it in SQL instead. -
Yeah, i agree with @IntrusionCM. It doesn't have to be sexual harassment to be something they really need to stop doing. When a manager is making you uncomfortable at work for laughs they aren't just not doing their job correctly, they are actively hindering you doing your job which means they are wasting company money at everyone's expense.
