@ScriptCoded Well, as git blame says, last time I thouched that code was 9 years ago. And in fact it's even older, because that Initial import was because of a migration from subversion.
On the positive side, the code is still pretty well manageable. -
@theuser That's my point. It's ridiculous and goes against proper use of "cascading stylesheets". All It does is that instead of having to write style="color: blue", I have to write class="text-blue". The rest is just inline styling, which is suposed to be a very bad practice. So we have gone full circle in stupidity or am I missing something?

@iiii Nothing, I was enjoying writing CGIs in Perl in the late '90s. In fact, I almost shed a tear when I've seen it.
-
@Angry-dev Well spotted on tests. I do the same. For example, last week I started writing a 2048 clone in Rust. I just couldn't do without writing tests first. They were so helpful. Those unit tests just came in naturally, they were screaming to be written. Instead, if I'm writing some crappy crud web app, writing tests there is just loosing time imho.

I didn't event know Sonata was a thing. But I have used symfony before. For two years maybe. It sucked, it looks and feels like a poor-man's Spring framework.
Best wishes and good luck! -
The real question is wtf do we do with "white spaces" in our code now. Hmm..
-
@SortOfTested Oh boy, my only experience with functional programming has been with emacs lisp, which I just cannot get my head around. It feels like speaking backwards, hehe.
The thing that's getting me excited nowadays is Rust. I'm still quite newbie with it, but I have to say I am enjoying it. -
@SortOfTested Mm.. I'm not sure what do you mean by FP and RFP?
In any case, the thing is that, as a freelancer, I work on different projects simultaneously, thus end up with a lot of things in my head. I also have a family, so I'm pretty busy overall. And tools, libraries, frameworks and processes are just that, tools that should help us, not degrade our performance. I'm sick of chasing async/await issues with axios and jwt tokens in javascript, when the real business problem is miles away from there.. -
@SortOfTested I'm 47 now, and to be honest I can no longer be bothered with this stuff anymore. 15 years ago I was the one overengineering things with a lot of XML in Java.
Kids nowadays overengeneer because they want to forge a CV. I am instead a freelancer, and I want to think I get paid to get things done, with a good balance between quality and cost. -
@pdinklaedch I am more anarchic. You can come in and commit on my dev branch. I trust you are good enough. If you make a mistake, I'll fix it. If I make a mistake, you may fix it too, otherwise I will fix it.
But hey, the PR thing was just an example. I also hate it when I see lots of tests for a stupid crud app that has no business logic whatsoever, because, you know, you *must* write tests... and so on. -
lol, I'm sorry you you man. The question is, what is worse, android development, or being involved in the node.js and js crap?
-
@molaram well, that Makefile had to do with docker, so I just closed the file quickly before fainting
-
Jsp is not that outdated. Learn spring and spring boot, make up the cv just a bit and you Will sooner or later find a job. Theres tons of legacy code out there. I am myself doing weblogic stuff from time to time!
-
@Benutzername OMG, no, I've never gone that far :)
-
@C0D4 Because I'm stupid and I didn't know about ssh2_sftp :( Thanks, I'll give it a try, you made my day!
BTW, the curlOpt I was looking for is CURLOPT_DIRLISTONLY. OMG. -
@sbiewald curl is an ancient piece of software. I bet it was born as a hack, back in the 90s, one of those hacks that grew and grew, adding options and flags, new protocols and shit, and now we have.. this :(
-
I'm not using the CLI. I'm using the PHP api (curl_setopt, curl_exec, etc..). I'm just trying to list the files on a remote sftp server, and the api is pure crap. The are just two commands: curl_init, curl_setopt, and curl_exec. But there are hunders of constant for CURLOPT, which motivated my rant.

I started with a Das Keyboard with mx-blues. Then a custom built with Gateron Browns. And I now use another custom built 60% with Zilent switches, which is a joy. It's a hobby, but given the time I spend in front of it, it's worth it.
-
You you got a good excuse to buy your next keyboard :)
-
@iamai well, sometimes I write nice stuff too 😀
-
Oh, laravel.... God save our children from drugs and from Laravel

There's always /r/PBSOD in reddit
-
I'll pray for you mate...
-
I'd buy a USB microsd card reader.. that 's cheap
-
@ryanmhoffman I'm a normal guy as well.. until I get handed over a pile of spaghetti code, then I'm more like a psychopath

I reckon there was a domain somewhere collecting bsods from all over the world.
