@mjones44 its an exact copy of the ios app switcher prior to ios9 (where it became more fluid like android)
-
all i want to know is... who do i have to kill because of that IOS style app switcher
-
its funny to look at how half the EU goes into berserk mode when the weather drops below -15c with slightly stronger snowstorm.... while for the other half of the EU its just wendsday
-
@segfault0xff @Robinha
they both worked at the same hedge fund previously and married a year before he started creating amazon, guess where.... in his garage.
Anyway it seems they co-signed it but when the company went public, she retained no shares as she only worked there for a short while in the financial side. Out of the 167.1 billion thats estimated as his networth, 160billion of it are in amazon shares (a bit over 16% of the company's shares) -
@irene bitcoin has no outlet nor proper input anymore. A regular currency can be monitored, it can be produced at any given time, it can be decomissioned etc. In short it can be controlled and balanced if need be.
Bitcoin however has a finite number of keys that can be generated and the "well" has pretty much run dry..... this means there wont be any new keys in a short while that can be added to the circulation, but old keys can still "dissapear" or be forgotten. And because you cannot monitor the transactions taking place, its impossible to balance or mend problems that may occur.
PS: it makes it unstable and unreliable.... this in essence, makes it a very risky investment. -
@AmyShackles
Perfect ^^ -
great work, now code it with a private key so its would be nigh impossible to decode without the key :D
-
i rejected hostinger when they started removing the free hosting possibility..... the wya they did it was idiotic.
First they hinted that premium would be better as it had ssh access, then they removed the auto-installer from free contracts, then they removed the web based file editors from free contracts.... and when all of that didn't get enough customers they closed the free hosting services all together.
i used their services purely for education with my students before that.... their system was somewhat broken and had old software but it didnt require payment back then -
@ilPinguino
I dont mind, its just one example in many - just felt like ranting about it this time 🙄 -
@filthyranter
I think its called "device maintenance". But to be honest nothing really remains from the "smart manager" side as they built only the improved algorithms into the system software (nougat anx upwards) and it contains no tracking or ads. It doesnt run automaticlly and honestly i never use it anyhow since the impact is understandably below 5%. -
@filthyranter
There is no such app on my phone called smart manager (there is however an app called smart things that i have never touch and that has not worked for a single second since the phone was first turned on and the only purpose it serves is to connect different samsung devices such as the smart watch) so i dont get your grief with it -
I don't get all the hate samsung is getting... they make decent enough phones. Sure it contains bloatware with the samsung app store and bixby but a regular user never touches these thing anyhow. Much like i ignored many apps my long dead apple tablet had. I own a galaxy S8+ i got cheaper way back when and iv yet to be disappointed by it. (PS: id rather own an android than iphone but id ignore much of the cheaper phone manufacturers since they are mostly even worse)
If id buy a new phone id buy the new oneplus phone thou -
but the sad thing is that docker still requires as much memory as a virtual machine.....
-
wait... so its employing json style objects using C/C++ style pointers? Weird but interesting.
-
@zombileet
because it all attributes to the old good vs evil dogma (light and dark basically). Attributing this to racial stereotypes is the same as making it illegal to be afraid of walking down a dark alley way by stating its racist toward darker skin tone (and rejecting the idea that its actually the possible danger lurking in the dark that youre afraid of). -
Reminds me of tweet my colleagues showed me where it stated that many of the terms used daily in computing are racist such as blacklisting/whitelisting in networking and master/slave disk drives etc.
its fun how people see triggering words everywhere these days.... but its less fun to see their opinions being forced on everyone by integrating them into law <.< -
Why do people hate mysqli so much? If you are using only MySQL, its still better to use its intended driver rather than a general SQL driver...
-
@JustKato Its easy to make mistakes, sharing that mistake with a single click is what makes for sad results sometimes.
Remindsm e of the time the professor actually offered to write his own course's summary since the one being passed around contained ALOT of wrong info and his last group had a 30% pass rate when they used it (nobody removed that guy's work or mentioned that it was faulty for 2 years) -
I wonder how long we can encrpyt SSL certs ourselves before they disable it for security reasons.... just slightly resembles the Java jar conundrum a while back.
-
I used a vpn at work to bypass the idiotic openDNS service the IT-lead put up... its supposed to filter pornography but it ended up filtering several development tool websites.... however since i used regularily used VPNs he blocked all VPN subdomains so im unable to use any at all now <.<
(he refuses to remove or modify it stating its for security reasons, and apparently he set up a full packet tracker and sniffer too so 0 privacy now) -
The "Answer:" thing is a debatable subject but... you can take it either way, i agree with you that lower grade without letting you fix the mistake is a bad decision thou.
But... if you cant follow simple rules/requirements, how can you expect the teacher/client to be happy? if the exercise specification wanted you to specifically write "Answer:" and you wrote "The answer is ", then you did not carry out the specifications as written. Might sound simple but may cost you quite alot later on if a client is very critical about what you write. -
@Prakash did you also note that its only avalible if you use C99? Original C never had boolean data type and it never needed it - zero always equated to false any non-zero always equated to true...
-
reminds me about the Jordan Peterson and Cathy Newman interview where cathy stated that only 7 out of the top 100 companies have a woman running it. Jordan pointed out that being the head of something is a very competitive lifestyle... so Cathy suggested that mabey the they introduce more feminine traits to the other companies so the women dont have to compete with the men for these positions....
(i know its a media stunt but quite a few feminists actually seem to think the same) -
oh and i remember a student of mine who used a macbook.... the only sad part was he didnt know how to use/want to use any other system So when his laptop broke he couldnt do anything for months....
-
@theuser they implemented a beta variation of linux shell for windows that you can install from windows 10 features. But Powershell has had command aliases for linux and macOS commands for years now... id still prefer to use a linux terminal thou.
anyways my personal preference tells me to never use macs althou many of my students use them in my classroom. I can use a mac but i prefer not to because of how the peripherals act different to any other system out there (im looking at you, you weird single button excuse for a mouse). I dont discourage using macs but i used to hate how they limited your apps and file access on apple's software so id never use one myself. The bad side is that often people go with the macs only because its trending, not because its what they feel is best for them.
The idea is that developers are problem solvers, it doesnt matter what you use to solve the problem as long as you solve it.... be it a linux/mac/windows or PHP/C#/Java/C++. -
@Krokoklemme c# popularity depends on the country. But it is quite popular.... .ASP even overtakes Java in web development by quite a bit if you look at the websites per technology used graphs.
-
well... its true that you can and some teacher DO read off of the powerpoint slides. Its mostly because they teach multiple subjects and they do it every year... the same thing again. It gets tedious so the longer a teacher has had the job the higher the probabilityo f them reading off the slides.
I sometimes do it on some subjects im not an expert in but i share facts, stories and alot more information thats on the slide - alas is the student's own job to write down what the think is necessary as the only thing i give them after the lecture are the slides.
PS. Ever heard a professor or teacher saying "you cant pass this lecture with slides alone"? Thats exactly what they mean. -
@RandarXJ7 i teach at a vocationa school. I force them to use git in certain projects but not all of them... so its up to them if they suffer later on or not.

windows 10 updates are a real pain if you dont have an SSD... and also if you arent afraid of getting hacked. why?
It constantly tries to download and share updates whenever you turn on the computer, often going to 100% disk usage for about 30min(if your machine isnt under the table the noise will literally drive you nuts). Aditionally it turns itself on after 10min of you turning it off or setting it to sleep, upon which it starts to do its aditional update and telemetry run.
I neded up disabling the windows update modules and services but surprise surprise... it turns itself on after a day or two. The only way iv found to stop its madness is to forbid the usage of TIworker using group policy rules that can only be done under windows 10 pro -
@shb743 to be honest the limiting factors of Apple's OS systems makes it quite a bit harder to overload the already weak hardware architecture so it really feels like it runs better. Macs also have very limited set of hardware configurations made by the same companies so less overhead on drivers.
So you end up with less functionality for more efficiency at roughly 30-50% more price (note how the new iMac Pro costs a minimum of 5000$)
