Corporate hackathons are bullshit. I've swore them off. There is no way I'm going to be put in additional hours for so little gain ever again.
Companies have boatloads of money, and they think they can get away giving people $100 Amazon gift cards. SERIOUSLY? You pay for execs in millions of dollars for flapping their mouths.
Make it so that you pay out at least 20k+ to winners and give people something for participating - a nice 1k bonus.
You guys have enough money.5 -
Let me just warn people that if you quit your job but they offer you to come back with a significant salary increase it's probably not the right answer.5

My pet peeve is IMs that start wtth hi or GM. Please people. Can you write what you want from me. Why don't you ask about how my dog is doing as well?7

I can't believe fucking Google, aka me cha for SWEs decided that the best they can do is shove all that ram into our computers for Chromium. All of the major apps decided Electron was a good idea and now all of our computers are bloated with fatass memory hogs taking 600MB RAM.
Fuck you Goog.27 -
Man I'm only 4 years in and I'm so tired of writing bullshit code that no one cares about. How do people do this for 20 years. I don't know. Motivation is at an all time low. It seems stupid to me that instead being out there with the butterflies I am dying staring at a rectangle for days on end. FML.27

I think the reason why BigCos simply suck is that there are too many warm bodies that do not care.
I try not to give a fuck but I still do...1 -
There might be a special place in hell for the creator of JavaScript. He hacked something in a couple weeks and this monstrosity has been causing hell for devs since the 90s.13

Honestly, the most underrated skill in tech is communication. Writing clear, succinct emails and telling the story without rambling is a critical skill. If hiring comes down to a wire, I would hire a dev that can communicate well than someone with pure technical skill but zero communication skills.4

I hate how some people cannot write coherent fucking sentences in an email. I wish I can vote them off to relearn English. When you're describing a fucking issue, you cannot use words like criss cross. WTF does that even mean?!!8

Scrum masters are a joke. I think we should take half of their salary and tack it on to the tech lead and let him run the show.6

I wish I thought about what kind of work makes me happy before I graduated school. Feels like I'm pigeonholed into soulless backend crud, and the amount of force required to escape this trajectory is non trivial.1

Whoever decided it was a good idea to sync my desktop to the cloud without letting me know after the latest system update, FUCK YOU.3

I hate being in program purgatory. You don't know whether your program froze, or the CPU is hustling to crunch out those numbers. To kill or not to kill. That is the question. Q.Q2

One good thing about the rona I'm guessing is employers would be more willing to let top performers go full blown remote.
Don't mess this up guys. -
If I'm still around in this wretched industry when I'm 60+, I hope I become a robotic Godzilla pwning young whipper-snappers left and right instead of an outdated fossilized dinosaur.

If I ever run my own engineering team I shall ban all meetings after 12 PM. Or permit meetings only on 2 days of the week.6

For now I decided to give less shits about bad code and the job. Unfortunately I am not resolute enough right now to steer a ship going in the wrong direction. Once clock hits 5 this homeboy is out.

I shouldn't be modifying 7 fucking 200+ line files in your UI to make a single get request. Can we please use some of our common sense to see that doing shit like this completely defeats the principles of our jobs - abstraction and simplification?!
-
God damn it Microsoft Teams is the shittiest piece of conferencing software ever. The UI is not consistent at all, calls are dropping like flies, and it does this bullshit thing where if packets are dropped it speeds up people's voices which is annoying as fuck. Echoes are everywhere and does no background filtering so people are on mute when they're talking. Fuck you Microsoft for bundling this pos down our throats.11

There's something super broken about the interview process in our industry. I spent 30 minutes chatting with a hr recruiter. 2 hours on a coding screen. 1 hour for a technical interview. 1 hour talking with the head of engineering. But then they decided to pass on me. Well if things went well then, then I spend an entire fucking day on an onsite.
Wow. Since when did the industry get so bloated until we have to do so much to get a job? Is signal really that unclear so candidates have to jump through hoop after hoop?

I'm just super disappointed in people. A lot of people flaky and not as good as I think they are. I tend to be an idealist, and I believe in helping others to do a net positive. But what I find is that people just don't give a shit about anyone else except for themselves. If it's even a slightest inconvenience to them they won't do it. You ask for one little thing despite you helping them out a shit ton, and they won't do it for you.
Also, I'm so tired of people who always come up to me and talk big game about how we should work on a project together. But when shit hits the fan and I say let's do the work they don't do anything. Or I have to drag them along to get anything started.
Yeah, everybody is out for themselves, but I wish we were more kind to others and learn to take a hit to our own convenience every once in a while.
But maybe I should just find a better group of people to hang out with and fuck you all to my current group of friends. JK.
I'm going for a run to clear my head. Hopefully after I come back I'll be in a better mood.2
