This is pretty much the approach I take, minus the documentation part. That would have helped me on a number of occasions.
-
I thought they stored the most recent 10k messages on the free plan.
-
This is a great dilemma to have, looking forward to seeing the responses you get.

Surely you can pick some up for peanuts on eBay?
-
@Letmecode you were already famous on here but more so now.
-
@Jellyg00se I thought that was a British thing 😂
-
What country you from? Just wondered if ballache is a globally used term.
-
I personally prefer using Linux but hardly ever use it anymore, I'm a .net dev, I love c# and it's hard to move away from visual studio even if it is massive and slow at times. It's a bit like a bad dog, it frustrates you but you still love it.

Hang on, she asked if you used the latest code from Git or retrieved the code from the web server. So unless I am misunderstanding you already have source control in place but she is making changes to files taken from the server and just copying them back up. Is there no release procedure in place to prevent something like this?
-
I started reading that and thought you were taking about the TV show, I was going to say yes.
-
It depends on the language, I do the first in C# and the second in JavaScript.
-
That's a good idea, I guess I just need to jump in. I've wanted to start contributing to open source projects for a while but have an irrational fear of doing so.
-
Rather than just rewrite it, couldn't you code review it and have him fix any issues you find? His commits should get better over time, he is won't like doing everything twice.

Any further updates on this?

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't know. 😖

I've accidentally left my wallet over night before and nothing went missing. It's a small company, there are only 10 of us, I trust them all.
-
It takes time to settle in, don't be scared to ask questions. There's no such thing as a stupid question. Always try and find out through a search engine first and you can tell the person helping you what you've tried and haven't just gone straight to them.
-
You shouldn't be working for anyone for free. Either start charging them or tell them you are too busy to help out.

I didn't actually like the topic for this weeks rant, there's already enough moaning about how shit teachers are on here and college/uni related rants. It seems like there are a large percentage of members that have never actually had a development job and just rant about how superior they are to their teachers. I'll probably get down voted for this but fuck it.
Great rant btw. -
I've come to realise senior means nothing, I've met a few developers that are only senior because of the length of time they have been in the industry. I've also met some fantastic developers some senior, some not.

Must have installed the Xamarin SDK, it's huge. I installed enterprise and it was far less than 50GB.
-
That's cool, they have some interesting project ideas on freecodecamp.
-
I'm also an Asp MVC dev and I quite fancy playing with electron.
-
Did you just decide to create a calculator or are you working through freecodecamp?
-
Interested to see the response to this.
-
I laughed more than I should have at this, then felt depressed at the lack of unit tests in work 😞
-
If you get stuck there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for advice/help. Just don't leave it until you are meant to be almost finished. Good luck.
-
I felt exactly the same, the best advice I can give is don't be afraid to ask questions regardless of stupid you think it is. It's better to ask a stupid question and get the answer than pretend you know something.

Email them and see if they will reduce the bill. I know someone that did something similar in Azure, he emailed MS and said he accidentally left it on and they let him off with it because they could see it wasn't actually used.
