@bhouston It sounds like there are not really backups if he was able to delete them by running a script on the system. A basic rule of thumb is if there are not 3 copies of a file it doesn't exist and there should more then just local backups.
-
Well this would be a good time to suggest backup's of all your systems.
-
@nebula Its a goat. You need to sacrifice a goat to the * Gods.

@keanghok I think saying a language is cleaner or shorter then JS is kind of silly. Personally I find JS to be an extremely sloppy, messy, and overly engineered language.
Well Elixir is a great language, I'm just not a fan of Ruby and as such not as interested in Elixir over Erlang. -
Isn't everything in JS over engineered?
-
@Linux I agree 100% with you on that one. Just don't forget to lump Plesk in with them.
-
I have thought about trying out Phoenix before. It looks interesting, but I don't like the Rubyness of Elixir.
-
I used to work for a web hosting company in dedicated support. This doesn't surprise me even a little. I get calls from people selling shared hosting using cpanel/plesk asking for assistance because they have have no idea how to admin the box and wouldn't hire an admin.
Side note: Why are you still with them. They obviously doesn't care about security. Which makes me question how secure your info is on there side. If you are staying with WP I would suggest thinking about just using Wordpress.com. -
@sebastian I'm not saying that Linux will never have an issue or couldn't have the same amount of issue. My statement is that Unix has a history of being more stable and cheaper in systems like this.
-
@Codex404 No you are not the only one.
-
I have heard that is common.
-
@RazorSh4rk pushing code to your own branch shouldn't deploy to prod though. I'm in agreement with you that they did a shit job at automating the deploys.
-
When you need to make extra sure that `isEnable` didn't change since last evaluated.
-
I'm with the Facebook commenter on this one. Help them test there disaster recovery plan.
-
When I see things like this I always find myself asking. Why are they using Windows for this when Linux or BSD would be a more stable pick.
-
@EelOnMosque That is amazing.
-
@RakNoel Some people just want to watch the world burn.
-
I would say I'm socked and surprised but that would be a lie.
-
@Jilano This has happened to me on more then one site. Oh god it pisses me off. They could do some basic validation before submitting.
-
@Letmecode I mean the last line of the example code. The string is not empty so why does JS want to flag it as false. White space added to a string should prevent this from happening.
-
@Letmecode It makes sense until the last line. Thats where it stops making sense.
-
I don't like JS personally but this does make sense. In C++ zero is false, in most higher level languages a blank string is also false, and because false is defined its not null or undefined.

When does the cat turn 6?

The engineering here is amazing.
