This has been my setup for a week, working from home 🏡
I will forget to post about my real setup, so never mind.
64GB of RAM
2x NVMe 512GB
2x SSD 1TB
FullHD screen 120hz
Love it ❤️11
Next week I’m going to install Openstack via TripleO on 12 physical nodes in another city far from mine.
My boss “sold me” as an expert, obviously.
I know Openstack, I love it, but I’ve never installed it yet.
This weeks are going to be tough 😅1
Ow, so you use Arch Linux?
So doge, much congrats.
I use Gentoo in my NAS/MediaCenter since 2009 👌🏻😂9
I started two months ago a new role in a new company.
Together with 3 colleagues I manage a HUGE OpenStack platform (I’m talking about more than 300 customers, many petabytes of data, dozens of compute nodes 😍).
On Friday night a well-known multinational had the GREAT idea to update the software of one of the core components of the platform (Neutron).
Obviously it all went wrong and customers started to call and open tickets, so even if it was already past midnight we’ve been all called to arms.
As a workaround we had to rebuild ALL the networks, detach all the ports and reattach them to the VMs, with all the errors that came with this kind of operations, such as failing to get an internal/external IP, fail to boot etcetera.
What amuses me is the fact that the above-mentioned multinational just asked for logs with no solution (except for the above workaround) until Monday morning.
It has been a good weekend, i talked with professionals from all over the world, in various languages, and worked multi-tasking with two different computers, with a third that was used just to share my screen and VPN for the management network.
During this weekend I virtually met all the possible colleagues that I will meet in this new role, and it was pretty funny to see how they handle stress. (Badly if you ask)
I’ve been woken up at 7:30 after falling asleep at 6:45, I’ve slept 17 hours in 5 days, haven’t taken a shower in 5 days (I know, it happens, I worked from home) but it was worth it.
Not only and merely for the money (overtime work), but mainly for the job itself.
I love to handle this HUGE infrastructures for now, even if I think they have many limitations and many components could have been written better.
The best thing about this weekend was to meet a group of people from all over the country and the world that worked non-stop from Friday night until Wednesday night to solve the situation.
All of them understood me when I asked them questions, and didn’t treat me like the [insert random]science nerd that I am.
I felt like in the movies, in front of three monitors, working from the comfort of my chair, in my underwear, eating as fast as I could because I was constantly in call with someone.
Apart from that, WHAT THE FUCK WENT THROUGH YOUR HEAD TO DEPLOY AN UPDATE ON FRIDAY NIGHT, YOU FUCKING PIECE OF adorable man???
WHY COULDN’T YOU WAIT UNTIL MONDAY??? NOBODY USES THOSE SERVICES AT NIGHT APART FROM THE SCHEDULED JOBS!!!!!
I HOPE YOU’LL HAVE A LONG AND PROSPER LIFE, FULL OF JOY AND HAPPINESS6
Wouldn’t it be great to have subRants like Reddit does with subReddits?
I’d love to join LinuxRant 😍😂
The last time I’ve asked a similar question it already existed, this time I checked if it existed already and it doesn’t 😇
Would it be possible to subscribe to a post without having to comment it?
Would be great in order to avoid the millions of “📌” comments ❤️5
Stop doing this if you’re in Europe.
GDPR is coming, if you delete your account now they will preserve it.
If you wait until may 25 they will be forced by the law to actually delete it.
Read the 17th article of GDPR if you don’t believe me.16

Triple boot OS:
Happy with my new setup 😎
I only miss kexts for the trackpad to support macOS gestures, for now i use keyboard shortcuts but it’s ok 🤪12
Just resigned from my company.
I’m “sadpy”, or “had”, half happy half sad.
They gave me a lot, I gave them a lot.
I feel sorry because now they won’t have a jolly anymore.
I used to do many kind of activities, from DBA to HW installation, from penetration tests to security analysis, from scripting to programming.
A full-stack all-do.
The new company wants me for my skills in electronics as well, I’ll be their all-do for IoT 😍
I’m quite happy for my new role, wish me luck 😊9
Here it goes my second Rpi cluster 😎
Actually there are 3 Orange Pi PC, 1 Rpi3, 1 Rpi2 and an Odroid XU4.
I plan on using it as a workbench for many technologies.
For example DevStack, Ansible, Gluster, TahoeLAFS, Kubernetes, Docker Swarm and such.
Any additional suggestions?2
I hope you never have to install RHEV in production.
It’s such a bad product, it brings shame to the name “RedHat”.
I’ve found a variant of a variant of Mirai in a client’s server, tried to remove it, failed, shut off the server and disconnected it.
The server was our ownership but was situated at the client’s building in their network.
We asked for this server to be in a DMZ segregated from the actual production network just because in the production network there’s the core business as well as credit card data.
They failed to implement our requests and they got hacked.
I hope I discovered the threat in time, but I’m quite sure some head will fall off.
Hell, I’m sorry for those guys but I love my job ❤️
I traced back the malware maker/s and dumped their VPS just because.2
I work for a company, but I get paid very little.
I threatened to leave and they said “wait six months before leaving”.
I did some interviews here and there, and this week I’ll have two different proposals on my desk.
I told that to my boss and he replied “go and bring those proposals back, we’ll use those to try to improve your salary”
Why do I have to deceive a company, that’s wasting time, to actually have a salary raise in my company?
The other companies know part of the situation, and I told them that I have a few proposals on my desk.
When my actual company will make the proposal that will keep me where I am I’ll tell the others that I had a better opportunity and that I have to refuse their offer.
This is pissing me off, I just want to work, I hate making fun of people, I’m sorry for them wasting time for me.5
I’m in vacation, in a beautiful island, in the middle of the sea, with a beautiful blonde that I love ❤️
I miss my computer 😭8
Any Linux Kernel developer?
I was thinking about a SELinux module to insert AVC in a DB like PostgreSQL or just a simple SQLite 🤔1
For the second month in a row we’re getting paid late..
They practically skipped a salary..
One of my best days as a dev has been watching an R2-D2 raising to life with the help of Arduino and Raspberry.
I've bought the little fella in december, and due to incompatibility within work and real life I had to postpone it until the future.
I've yet to write something T.T
I'm a complete disappointment to myself, I have no time for my hobby T.T
The only good thing is that I love my work, even though I have no time for real life 🙃
New role in the company, now I finally work in security, and I love it.
Walking by the IoT lab while talking to my new boss, my eyes have hearts in it and my boss notices it.
He asks: "do you fancy electronics?"
Me: "i love electronics"
We agree, talking with the head of IoT, in securing their gateways with our knowledge.
A dream came true. Two of my favorite subjects together, electronics and security.
Temporal jump, few weeks later, still no formal engagement in this work.
We got invited to give a speech in a university by the head of IoT about gateways's security.
During his presentation he talks about universities and their (obviously free) contributions to his products.
Our radar was up, he was trying to give our job to university students.
Obviously we didn't give the whole speech with our suggestions, and we avoided the core parts of the speech.
Well done, sir.
I do not completely disagree with his approach, but I'm not sure the resulting product would be secure enough.
University students where I live only have theoretical approach to the subject, I'm afraid they will leave holes in the product.
Now I'm split.
From one point of view I hope they leave many bugs, so that I can then work on it and fix it.
From the other point of view I hope they do a great job, so that my company does not make a bad impression in the Internet of Insecure Things..
Furthermore, how do I behave now?
I really wanted to start this new project, we were talking about building a new hardened OS for the IoT, and I already started writing hardened drivers, functions, and implementing hardware security between sensors and gateways.
When you're making the work of an engineer and get paid as an intern..
"Great work" they say.
Ok, where's the money?
At least I get to work with funny stuff 😍1
Last day at this project.
It helped me grow as a professional, helped by great coworkers :)
I hope that the security side of sysadmins will be more interesting than DBs and BIEE.
Goodbye SVOA ❤️
Today at 3PM all of my coworkers got to watch the match Italy-Sweden and i finally got some silence 😍2
