Awlex177467y@bhedia Tomorrow (in about 5 hours) I'll add a github link. It will basically be an (ugly) Timer for android that notifies you, when you should take a break. Nothing more and nothing less, but You'll get the general idea
-
Awlex177467yIf somebody wants to take a look at the code, I did my best to make it as less cancerous as possible.
Unfortunately I can't say the same about the UI/UX -
Awlex177467y@ryanmhoffman @Awlex
1. Planned, but I'll have to learn a good way of achieving this.
2. On phone can make it trigger daily at the same time. I don't know exactly how it will be on a desktop, but if possible I'd like to it when one or more user-defined programs are launched and listen if the user inputs, to determine when he should take a break
I should be able to have a prototype added to the releases (if github stops trolling me)
Also, thank you for your interest! -
while15287yI'm not experienced in this, so I might be talking outta my ass here, but what about an add on for editors that listens to the inpit (with a threshold for a certain period of time given)?
-
Awlex177467yI need to check that myself, but if it's possible to connect to multiple editors/IDEs that way, I'll definitely try to
-
Awlex177467y@rewert So, I've sone some reaearch. It should be possible to create a plugin for most editors/IDEs that tell the main program, that the user has done some input like writing.
But while reseaeching I've come to the conclusion that it's too restricted, because you'd have to write a plugin for each program you want to monitor.
Instead querying the currently opened program and listening to raw input would allow to categorize the program (by stress level) and pop a notification sooner or later depending on the stresslevel the program inposes on the hand -
I may point out that most people use Skype... So in order to get desktop notifications I could make a Skype bot to send you a message to do your hand exercises.
-
Or if the target audience for this is gamers I could make a Discord bot. (FYI discord is an application like Skype but meant for gamers)
-
Awlex177467y@404NotFound1 Not sure if where I'll need it. For windows 10 I could simply post a push notification.
Maybe for older versions And other operating systems -
Awlex177467y@dikshaa42 Crime extension?
I really hope you meant Chrome extension 😅
But depending that, I look at my comment from e days ago, to see how I want to do it.
I'll try to make a flowdiagram asap for better understanding -
Awlex177467y@Kryptic0 My innocence prevented me from realizing that you were talking about "Fortran Assembly Programming" 😶
-
Very interested in using this.
Can't commit to committing anything but if you have a slack/discord group then I'll you can pick my brain. My fields of expertise are, in order: PHP, CSS, JS, Mysql, linux, bash, cron, React -
lotd77757yGood idea.
However I'd suggest starting doing deadlifts regularly.
- it has pretty much cured my carpal tunnel syndrome. -
I can help, I don't know Kotlin but I'm a full stack Android developer and I can also help with the desktop version in Java.

My 2ct comment
Don't just do a "one task" app. Hands are important yes, but it would be nice to add posture reminders too. General stretching, take a walk, drink water etc... I think it should be more about reminders about improving a Dev lifestyle than just hand health reminder -
@Jop- Why not just use ear buds instead of a surround sound headset...there's an entire extra layer of control gained from mouse-based movement in FPS; so much so that in games like Dust 514 devs have to nerf keyboard/mouse players fine-accuracy controls.
And then you have games like eve online or really any mmo where you get a big hearty FUUUCCK THAT to the idea using a controller. -
@Jop- I had a Logitech g930, which had the "surround" feature. In particular, left 4 dead 2 made it super important to use audio to detect enemies. I noted a huge downtick after that piece of Logitech craftmanshit broke and I switched to a steelsseries headset without the feature.
as much as I hate to admit it, it felt like having eyes in the back of my head. If only the things lasted longer than 13 months -
Measure keys typed and then break at x number actually I could probably bodge something like this together in autohotkey but having an app and stuff would be a lot cooler
-
NemanjaM37yAs i person that has problems with Carpal tunnel syndrom and hand strains i really appreicate this. Looking forward to its progress

As an idea, what of the phone detected inactivity.
If it senses that you are still for a certain amount of time it could turn on the timer or ask if you are doing an activity with your hands.
Coupled with a quiet hours setting this could be an effective way of deducting activity.
The idea of a desktop app/plugin wouldn't work for me as work wouldn't allow such an app to be installed 😿. -
onfi447yYou could create a chatbot integration.
e.g. telegram bot api
Or just implement browser push notifications. This is way more practical than downloading an extra app or install a desktop application.
