Why should they care what ID your computer is running? If they require any particular ID, especially a proprietary one, a blatant conflict of interest is evident. If it's a private university, then it just sucks, but if it's a public/state school, then it's commercial malfeasance.

I responded because the school I attended in the '90s had such a policy.
