I download YouTube videos just to watch them on a clean user interface without distracting advertisements and suggested videos.

    But you don't have SponsorBlock that way?
    Ublock Origin, Unhook, and SponsorBlock are mandatory to use youtube on web.

    @electrineer If SponsorBlock can detect sponsors inside YouTube videos, shouldn't it be able to detect it inside downloaded videos?

    @exerceo yes if your player knows which youtube video it is and knows how to retrieve the timestamps from SponsorBlock database.

    @exerceo @electrineer

    https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp

    yt-dlp has options to download a youtube video with sponsorblock automatically removing Sponsors

    @electrineer Reminds me of FREEDi (2014) and MixerBox (2017), two apps YouTube killed.

    I used uBlock Origin to remove the sidebar and comments sections from my YouTube interface and I'm loving the minimalism. No ads sure is nice.

    @dissolvedgirl on phone youtube revanced does that too. And removes shorts button 🙂

    @joewilliams007 Google has not killed Vanced yet?
  • 2
    @exerceo ReVanced was born after Vanced got shut down. The installation procedure is a bit more complicated since you need to download a specific version of the official YouTube apk and feed it to the ReVanced app, but you get a lot more freedom to customise the end result as well.

    @electrineer or you can go the easy way and just download the revanced extended apk and use it without having to do any work. Just like with vanced.

    In the end your trusting the website though that your pulling it from.
