tosensei8411211dno. because no.
why would i want hardware that costs more than its "dumb" counterpart, just so it is bundled with loads of bloatware and an OS that is already out of date when it leaves the factory? -
retoor12020211dI never saw a decent smart TV. Google chromecast is perfect, should not change anything. Can't be better

Demolishun34913211d@tosensei monitors that big cost more last time I looked. So I bought a bit 43" and use it as a hdmi monitor. I never connect it to the network. The shit part is its refresh rate is 30Hz. But my computer isn't really fast enough for high fps anyway.

Grumpycat588211dGod yes. Jellyfin can’t keep up. Shit breaking all the time. Web os update every few days. Relearn all the guis every week. Keeps me guessing.
Bitch on the jellyfin forum so it gets ignored. -
jeeper5968211dYes I have one.
They are bad ideas with worse execution. Interchangeable components make sense. Smart TVs are the anthesis of that. Sure you can loop on a Roku or something to an older one but its still an annoying concept and so much wasted effort reinventing the wheel for each tv os -
tosensei8411210d@Demolishun monitors that big _with the same performance_ cost less.
TVs usually have much higher latency, for starters, which in itself is awful - but simply doesn't matter with linear content, like movies. which is what TVs are for.
then add in bandwith, colour accuracy and whatnot, and you'll very quickly find regular monitors to be much cheaper than on-par TVs. after all, a TV is just a monitor with some extra stuff in it. and in case of "smart" TVs, that extra stuff is not just a receiver, but a complete computer which you have absolutely no control over. -
Demolishun34913210d@tosensei cheapest 43" monitor on Amazon is $393 (60Hz). Cheapest 43" tv on Amazon $178 (doesn't show Hz so I assume 30Hz). Where are these cheap 30Hz monitors you are talking about?
When I got my tv at a store the tv was $300 for a 4K tv and is a Visio. The monitors at the same store were like $200 and up and didn't get anywhere near as big. I remember seeing similar things at Amazon at the time. This was 5 years ago or so.
Do you own a smart tv? Do you like it?
