I don't live in a vacuum. I need to open an occasional Adobe bs format file (Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop). An occasional MS Office file too (Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). And don't tell me LibreOffice supports .docx. It doesn't support edits suggestion mode well enough. I needed AutoCAD for a period of time.

Desktop Linux people, what do you want me to do? Go to devRant and post “windows bad” rant? Go cry on Reddit?

I too think Windows is evil and 11 is essentially malware, but when I suddenly need those things done yesterday, and my livelihood depends on that, I have no choice.

(this is part 2 of this rant: https://devrant.com/rants/10703825/...)

Nothing wrong with that. I am Linux fanboy and I use windows for games that are made specifically for windows.

It's ok to use Windows,.or mac, or whatever you need. Just don't blame it on linux that you have to.

I mean damn, use whatever you want, but why do you have to shit on a good thing for no real reason. The solution to your problems is to make linux more popular so that companies give it the proper support. By shitting on it for something that's not even It's fault you're making it worse. You're acting as if It's our fault that linux can't support locked proprietary formats and that companies don't compile their closed-source software to run on linux despite doing it for MacOS which is almost the same thing under the hood.

Is this some kind of cognitive dissonance? You are using Windows because you have no other choice, but you also know that it‘s bad, so you try to invent reasons why Windows is good and Linux is bad to not be conflicted for using it.

Btw, it seems to be the same with javascript for most users of it.

@Lensflare I never said Windows was good. Windows is malware. But a lot of people use Windows, and that results in you needing to use Windows occasionally if you want to work with other people

Why do you assume we want you to do anything? Do you need our approval or smth?

As dandanthefireman says: "You do you"

No need to hate that piece-of-shit™ OS. If you need to use it, use it. I kinda try to not use it at all, but some things are made windows only.

I would never trust windows enough to do any kind of work that can be done on any other OS, for the work that can be done only on the piece-of-shit™, you do it on a piece of shit!

Personally, I enjoy windows 11. You just need to tweak about 100 settings and prohibit it to acess your porn...hmm.. homework...hmm job folders.

My usual uptime on PC is around 3 months without any reboots, without anything breaking. (ofc, one good day visual studio just randomly says : You need to reboot, without explanation"

My server machine at home is a Linux for example. Why ? because It's easier to setup for my needs but it's a PAIN to fix when it breaks.

Updated wrong package ? Syetem down, no more SSH, no more terminal.

I can fix Windows, but for my linux server, when it breaks, it's just full reinstall.

So bascilly I don't update or upograde my linux server EVER. BecaUSE if it breaks, I have for half a day to reinstall everything

@NoToJavaScript I have updates locked down on Windows 10. But every damn time I want to update Bedrock Minecraft I have to fucking update the OS. And every fucking time it asks to move to Windows 11. Every time I file feedback saying something like "Stop offering me Windows 11. It is cancer." The only reason I update Bedrock is because I can play with my kids on the Xbox. I won't use a gamepad for Minecraft.

The Microsoft store is a giant pile of shit. That is my only real usability issue that really upsets any kind of flow.

Edit: I should see how this works: https://github.com/Aetopia/...

@kiki 4 Words: Hardware requirement and tracking!

@kiki forced remote accounts for starters.

@max19931 Hardware requirements is a good thing, if you don’t want win 11 on your system.

@max19931 i am not really aaa gamer, i play nintendo most of the time, but here and there there are some games i cannot play on mac like cuphead or broforce.

Last Aaa game i played at the time of release was DMC4 with Nero, that was two thousand years ago, today i'am mostly enjoying coop and 2 player games with my wife and yes, some of them are, unfortunately, windows only.
