    Java: Horrid syntax is quite subjective. And slow compared to what? C? Sure.

    @jAsE Tbh there is not much speed difference between C# and Java. A simple Google search will tell you that.
    Today, it's a misconception that Java is slow.

    In fact, java will usually beat C in allocation heavy workloads, because allocation can be INCREDIBLY cheap in java.

    What happens if the brainchild of Self and Lua is to be raised by Scheme, but looks up to Java an awful lot?

    Correct, you get JavaScript!

    Tell your mother that Kotlin is what she needs to know: it can compile to Java byte code or to JavaScript. Best (worst?) of both worlds!
