Well, that it is because vendors have not added the Root CA of CACert into trusted RootCA.
Every certificate is so called "Self Signed" if it not "accepted" into systems like Windows, Linux and software like browsers
Let's Encrypt would have meet the same fate if not got the support of google and mozilla early on. -

It was all about timing.
Let's Encrypt appeared when privacy became a fashion. LE also got the CA "Identrust" to vouch for them instead of going throu a lengthy process that every other CA goes throu, that has been widely criticised. -

Unfortunately, it is not "accepted" by vendors. But if people start to talk about it, it maybee will :)

Why is there not much support behind the open and free CA "CACert" that has been around much longer then Let's Encrypt?
