Why should devrant have comment chaining feature?

Example attached.

    I mean, it's more organized.

What we need is quotes, not this garbage.

@JoshBent: “What we need is quotes, not this garbage.”

It depends if you want to read comments that are easily kept on topic in order of time, or if you want to follow different branches of conversation tree that may even lead to completely different conversations.

So I agree with you in that changing the rant format too much is not good. But I think there could be a place for conversation trees in devRant. Maybe new section?

@joas I hate reddit and similar stacked comments views on websites, it gets too busy, what if I am not interested in all the comments to all comments? I like how imgur handles it though.

@JoshBent if you're not interested in all the comments to all comments then shouldn't you prefer the nested format that Reddit uses?

@DuckyMcDuckFace no? because it shows all the nested comments expanded always, so you have an endless amount of subcomments to one single shot meme comment and then all others (top level comments) rot somewhere in the bottom of all that shitfest

imgur shows a backdrop of comment cards behind a top level comment, if theres more, allowing you to expand that comment if you want.

@JoshBent sure but the way devRant currently handles this is to show all of the nested comments at the same level. So if your not interested in all of the subcomments on Reddit you just close the chain but on devRant you have to read all of them in chronological order.
