Today is the first day that we have to go back to the office and more than half of the company is exempt from that rule

    Why, did everyone break their computer or what?

    From what I’ve read this is how a company fires people without having to do severance pay.

    I have relocated during the pandemic and if I had to go back to the office, I'd have a big problem.
    I know many colleagues which are in the same situation.

    @ars1 I think this is not the case. This company is too small & struggles to hire people (and have them stay)

    Also, I doubt the C-level can come up with this plan

    What about you, don't you like to go to office? I like it

    What criteria do they have to determine the exemption? I hope they have circulated a survey or something to understand your preferences, and constraints already l

    @asgs the people who have something important to do are obviously exempt

    @electrineer yeah, instead of sitting in the office in a circle and singing kumbaya

    @electrineer I wouldn't be so sure. I believe the ones exempted are the ones who threaten to quit and the ones who got good connections with their superiors

    @asgs well, the people who management considers important, then

    @asgs

    Sales & technicians are both excluded since they have to go to the customers. And people living more than an 60 min away are exempt.

    So as a result, 3 people from the DevOps team (2 on Mondays) out of the 11 have to go to the office. I'm a front-end dev and the remaining of my team that I work closely with is more than 2000km away
