Trying out Gnome again, because KDE is "just ok", and Hyprland and DWM are fine, but I wanted to try something different. (Actually DWM is amazing, and Hyprland is sorta weird?)

You know, it's not that bad. Doesn't even seem to be as memory crazy as everyone seems to say either...idk what I did, but it appears to be using around a GB, maybe a little less. Definitely not the experience I remember from the Gnome 2 days. Anyway, I was curious, so I was looking at the source on Github....and why the fuck is there javascript in this DE code? WHY. I do not understand.

Maybe I'm fucking nuts, but I actually kind of like the workflow, once I've applied a couple of "tweaks". But seriously, I am fucking gobsmacked at the JS thing. Why.

Don't do it! Gnome is cancer!

Go make a desktop icon. Do it! Fucking dark ages!

Gnome become sooooo unstable. Try install ANY extension, and wait the next "minor" version. It's like Gnome devs want to repel all potential users.

@Demolishun LOL it's really not that bad. Maybe I'm just a dipshit, but after remapping a couple of keys, it's rather pleasant.

Oeh why you dislike hyprland? Wanted to maybe try it after running dwm for ages

    no. god. please, no

@Jifuna Hyprland doesn't do a single thing that DWM or BSPWM don't already do, but people evidently go apeshit over it because it has "smooth animations". wOoOoOoOoOoOoO

@Jifuna I'm going to amend what I said about hyprland earlier - now that I've forced myself to use it for several days, it's actually pretty good. I would hesitate to call it 'lightweight' though, and just like any tiling wm, it requires a lot of config to make it comfy.

I think I'm going to stick with gnome since I don't want to spend hours tweaking configs to get things just right, but I guess if you really need/want a tiling wm and don't mind the absence of a few ease of use additions, it's a fine choice.

@nosoup4u Thanks! Yeah that's my problem at the moment as well, switched to kde temporarily but when I have time I'll be sure to give hyprland a shot

@nosoup4u I don't really mind that it doesn't really do anything more, just want a breath of fresh air after using dwm for so long
