I've just started to look into KDE's features.

I'm in love 😍

Please convince me why should I used kde.
I keep trying it and not finding the sweet spot.

Also, coming from gnome, the UI feels weird

    I really like kdwallet

I'd also be interested in more details. So far I found it rather annoying, but I didn't use it long yet.

Okular and kdenlive are amazing though...

KDE is the only DE that I didn't try. Currently running Gnome, although I like xfce. However, I will be switching to i3 soon.

After like a decade, KDE remains my favorite. 🙂

Just save yourself the journey and go straight to the destination: i3wm ;)

If the goal is to impress others it might loose, but i3 is pure WM Zen my friend!

@404response Shit amount of widgets, very freaking customizable, KDE Connect (sync loads of shit directly with your android phone), those are the ones that stood out for me :)

@jschmold Oh I use it on my work laptop, fast and stable as hell!

@linuxxx there's a gnome extension for kde connect .. the only downside of gnome seems like the animations

    @linuxxx
Hey, KDE Connect works with GTK too.

I dunno, I kinda like KDE, but Plasma is too buggy atm and the settings have too many sub menus.

@linuxxx since you're interested in security, you will probably like the new Vaults feature in Plasma 5.11. It's a really nice frontend for encrypting folders. In case you aren't running LUKS already 😀

Even more reasons to check it out:
    - you can do math and convert units in the quick launch menu (alt+space)
    - best multi-monitor support out there
    - the drag&drop menu is great for lazy people
    - you can pin windows to multiple virtual desktops, make them always above others and much more in the right-click menu of the window title bar
    - the amount of settings available from the GUI is approaching that of Windows
I've spent my whole break writing this so I have to go to class now, but trust me, there's more 😁

@franga2000 best multi Monitor Support 🤢? KDE Panels keep hiding or bug out if I hotplug displays specially when I place them on top they bug with maximized windows
  • 2
@koin It's true that hot-plugging is a disaster, but that's because you can actually have stuff on your other monitors.
With Gnome 3, you don't even get a full panel without like 6 extensions. Heck, even Windows only gives you a basic task switcher.
I have 3 monitors, plus a TV, each with a different set of panels and widgets and everything just works. There aren't many use-cases for hot-plugging monitors outside of laptops.

@franga2000 'outside of laptops' is a pretty big constraint, though.
  • 1
@theCalcaholic I know. I probably wouldn't use KDE on a laptop anyways. Probably something like LXQt or even i3.

    @franga2000
    >Math in quick launch
    GNOME has that too

I can't really say anything about the rest.

@franga2000 yeah I got a laptop use it at work, home, standalone or when I present something on a beamer and it was very annoying but mate and stuff got same problems so seems common

After all you've said. Gnome is still better for me.
Even though it has the lag problem.
If only I could have the latest gnome on Ubuntu LTS.
    fuck Ubuntu
