Ooooh Jeeeeeez
My desktop is so fucking shit, every single weekend there's a new problem. Today I can't boot Linux.

    @johngreen I've got one already, but I need windows and linux. I think I am damned. This week I broke 2 plates, 1 glass. 2 lightbulbs and my external drive died ; and the internet connection doesn't stop cutting

    What distro?

    @Linux Ubuntu 16.04 I think, but it worked yesterday. I have a black screen with a blinking cursor. I can boot in recovery mode and start a root shell

    By any chance, did you let some auto-updates run on your system before you shutdown last? Because the same thing happened with me except I'm using elementaryOS. I remember AppStore autoupdated some stuff before I shutdown my machine and I couldn't boot it the next day. I figured the updated kernel is not compatible with my laptop's drivers. You might check the possibility of the same issue with your laptop too. @GarreauArthur

    @SheShell It must be that, but I don't remember enabling auto-updates. I tried to boot with an older version but it did not work. I will fix the problem, but I am just bored of all these problems. 🙂

    @Lahsen2016 I can't enter a TTY, startx failed, there is a lot of "No input driver specified" in the log file. Thank you for the help

    @Lahsen2016 seems like a problem with the NVIDIA driver. Can't post a picture right now with my shit connection (I am going to change my ISP, so this problem will be fixed). I think I know what to do, there is a couple of interesting answers on askubuntu

    Problem solved, it was the NVIDIA driver who was messing things up

    How did you solve it?

    @SheShell
    apt-get purge some-xorg
    apt-get purge nvidia-*
    apt-get update
    apt-get install some-xorg
    apt-get install nvidia-common
    dpgk-reconfigure -a
    reboot

    Thinking about it, I am thankful to have these problems, I am learning new stuff, understanding linux a little bit more. (Note that I also needed to mount my filesystem in read-write mode, to enable the network, to create and complete /etc/resolv.conf, no idea why it didn't exist already)
