Today an intern accidentally opened vim and couldnt exit it. So she came by to ask how to get out of that editor.
My response: just hit escape and then ":q".
Turned out her escape key didnt work so she had to use an onscreen keyboard and she said there are about 5 dead keys on her keyboard for 2 years now...

How does one work with a broken keyboard?
And is there another way to exit a "mode" in vim than pressing escape?

    You could always try to rebind the function to an other key, but yeah, like the others said, it seems like some issues are more pressing than this.

    5 keys?! Man my left 'alt' key is fucked and I hate it with all my guts, can't imagine having 5 effed up.

    ctrl+[ should also exit a mode in vim,

    @wokeRoach its the opposite of an abusive company, she has been with us for four days now and she told me today. I immediately took care of it by getting a working keyboard for her.

    And I was once an intern in the same company, now we have about 40 interns and they have been her for about a week. Ive heard of some already that they have learned more in a week on the internship then 2 or 3 years at school.

    If you use that GNOME tweak or Ubuntu Tweak (forgot the exact name) you can exchange the functionality of caps lock and escape keys.

    They have done this with all the labs in my uni 😫

    IT'S _THE_ MOST ANNOYING THING EVER.
