Source? In my experience developers almost never smoke. I think its more related to country and age than job.

Some of us vape now because breaks are needed to collect thoughts.

    Smoke? Maybe in Eastern Europe.

Is smoking still a big thing in NA?

I thought it's mostly now poor and uneducated countries/people?

    Curious, actually.

Yeah, in Bulgaria, it's an epidemic. Poverty and lack of education will do that to you... @Codex404

I have to agree with you here. Know many devs and general computer/tech folk, not one smokes. @irene

First +1 to op. Your welcome bro. It depends on where you live or work.

@irene yes sir ji I am from India and I see most of my office friends do this regularly.

@irene so like 100+ people you know dont smoke or vape. Doesn't mean the observation is wrong. Where the op lives it may be a very standard thing.

Well in fort myers florida it was standard for my fellow it and developers to smoke. For the walking or break. Maybe try asking why they smoke. They may do so to have social gathering. Some people smoke just to hangout with other people.

I believe people smoke because they have a crippling addiction to nicotine. It's an addiction unlike any other and extremely difficult to combat. @skprog

Here in Sweden devs rarely smoke. Most of them use snus.

Also all the managers and the clients use snus.

And everyone in sales, and interns and the old and the young. Now that I think about it almost everyone in Sweden uses snus 🤔

Can you smoke indoors? I feel like if you have to leave the computer to smoke it's a big reason not to.

@irene sure is, just doesn't fuck up your lungs like cigs do
  • 0
@irene addiction is probably the smallest problems with cigs
  • 0
@irene no, they wouldn't be as bad if they weren't damaging to the body. The addiction by itself isn't a problem.
  • 0
@irene so you agree that addiction is bad only when the substance is damaging?
  • 0
@irene the definition of an addiction is specifying it is harming the user in some way, either mentally, physically or socially.

Even 1-2 cigarettes a day are incredibly detrimental to your health and life expectancy. If are you are a smoker please do yourself a favor and get some help and quit as soon as you can please...thank you very much.@irene
  • 0
    Just an overall 'thank you'.@irene
  • 0
@Codex404 didn't know about that definition, but it makes a lot of sense
  • 0
@irene @Codex404 addiction discussion aside, swedish snus is pretty much as safe as coffee

    But it's fuckin' disgusting.
I would rather chew on frozen cat poop.@PaulTheSaltyDev
