@irene I don't really understand. Could you explain your opinion. If tab character is not for text indentation, what is it for?

@irene Just researched the whole tabs vs. spaces thing and couldn't get any world changing proofs that you should use one or the other. So, shall we conclucude, that you should follow the codebase and guidelines otherwise it's up to your preference?

@irene Maybe. But people will probably never get into an agreement. They have their ups and downs. We can handle the thing better than forcing one option for others because of what you like. Be adults about it.

@elgringo The post doesn't really have any good arguments, it's based of the authors preferences and most of the bullet points are suggestions or why spaces can be used.

If your language style guide says use tabs like GO Lang or Makefile use tabs.

If your language style guide says use spaces you can use soft tabs.

@elgringo The title is "Never use hard tabs" and it doesn't say you should follow guidelines. It says, avoid using hard tabs unless they are absolutely required.

For the balance here's an article why to use tabs. The arguments are pretty much the same as in the previous article used for spaces.

Comments are pro-tabs also in this one, but it was much harder to find an article that is pro-tabs. I wonder why. 🤔

I did read it multiple times. What I read is here's two examples where you may use tabs, nowhere else. But you may intrepret it otherwise.

@irene They are pretty bad. I would argue that they are as bad as in the other post.

@irene The point I agree with is that it may result to bad coding habits. But that's just code alignment not indentation.
