Found this on Facebook... Should I be the one to tell them that apple didn't invent emoji and that the flags are all of countries?

I'm Australian and respect our natives but... Really?

Well they do add their own custom emojis (which resulted in 🏳️0🌈 crashing iMessage for a while).

They implemented the gay flag. It worked by rendering 🏳️🌈 as 🏳️‍🌈. However if you put a 0 between the two emojis the rendering engine panicked and crashed.

@Cyanite @Alice I'm sorry you took it that way. I'm only saying we shouldn't add every possible flag to the emoji set. There shouldnt even be a rainbow flag if we only have country flags.
And if you don't want to identify yourself using a particular flag then don't, its your full right.

Fun fact: the Unicode Council (or whatever) is fairly upset that people think all they do is make new emoji.

Personally I'm just kinda confused why you point out that Apple isn't God. I mean, they wouldn't have to be God to implement (generic cultural flag), but it also doesn't seem like something God might do, if they do exist. "ayyy hold up, I know your baby is dying of baby cancer, but the Australian aboriginals need me to add another emoji"

It is up to the Unicode committee to decide what emojis should be added. What he means by "Apple isn't God" is "Apple isn't a company that can change whatever it wants about anything."

@Arro what @tiberius1900 said, just your general consumer seem to think apple is the inventor of everything related to the apple lineup so keep stating that "apple" need to add something when they don't have full control over it

A) Apple can do whatever the fuck they want with emoji, getting UnicodeC to add a new one doesn't seem to far fetched.

B) Why isn't there an aboriginal flag emoji? If spoilt Americans get their unilateral representation, why not aboriginal folks? Come to think of it, why not Mongols or whatever the modern equivalent is, why not inuits, yadda yadda. Seems to me that if you're going to natter on about representation, that representation should be available to everyone.

C) why the fuck is there no St Georges Cross? They have the fucking dragon for Wales, that's just taking the piss now.

Grumble grumble grumble this irked me a bit.
