kevbost25618yI have this fear, because I've seen it happen. I'm 2 years in as full time, and have to sit patiently as those who make decisions about stack stay the course and play it safe.
What I learned and heavily studied two years ago is almost obsolete (backbone.js).
Given, I'm fortunate because we have a fucking hololens.
But the future is Aurelia, not UWP. -
I think everyone feels that way some times man. Get some tasty beer, a pizza, throw on some tunes, and dance neked. 🤗

I guess I struggle to think of any other job that demands you spend so much of your spare time trying to maintain your knowledge of what should be your actual day job. It's strange to feel bad about coming home to your family and doing things with them because you're industry tells you that you should be learning and trying out new things or doing side projects. I find it difficult to strike the right balance. I've 15 years of experience and I worry, as I get older, about my capacity to actually learn new things put them into practice.

@samk: Ah, I can see where you're coming from and understand how that can be frustrating. With 15 years experience, would it be possible to migrate into a more managerial "paper pusher" type of role? It might require learning some new processes, but would get you out of the frustrating role of constantly trying to learn the latest and greatest tech stacks. 🤔
Those times when you feel that being a competent, reliable, hard-working developer just isn't good enough. When you feel you can't keep up with the pace of change in your sector and you're being left behind in terms of knowledge and understanding of all the new tools and frameworks and patterns and approaches. You're convinced you're soon going to lose your ability to contribute or architect anything new in your current role.
