so I'm married to a developer. he works at horrible boring forever projects he is trying to make me apreachiate. well fine. I can do that. sure. but for fucks sake, why on earth does a web developer need to work weekends?! and why can't he get time off? why is it even remotely important if the shop is up a today or a week later? who the fuck cares if people have to wait a week longer to buy fucking pumpkin oil online?! who buys fucking pumpkin oil online anyway?

If my grandmother couldn't buy pumpkin oil at 3:48am, well then the fucking economy would collapse.

...what the hell is pumpkin oil used for? like aromatherapy, baking, some stupid "natural skin cleanser" that uses "advance technology based on gourds to fade wrinkles make you look like a fucking idiot"

@azuredivay he married me, he knows I hate his job :D
  • 15
@rozzzly holy fuck yes! it's used for making salads. imagine the 5 hipsters all across the globe refreshing the page every 3min waiting for pumpkin oil to launch!
  • 7
@azuredivay If he pushed her onto devRant then I assume he knew he knew what he was in for.

Question is: @ursa are you a dev?

Second question: So devRant, do we drive out non-devs who post here by grabbing our torches and pitchforks?
  • 9
@rozzzly no ofc not, I have a real job :D but no one understands how hard it is to love someone who goes on about pumpkin oil for months. before that it was ass doctors.
  • 5
@rozzzly nah, as long as it's ranting about devness who cares.
  • 3
@ursa ...ass doctors? This begs an explanation.

@kevbost fair enough. But if they mention 9gag.... well shit's gonna be Rated-R real fast
  • 8
@pjhauser way to be a shit.
  • 14
haha guys :) the real job thing is a joke I use around my husband and his creative friends.. ofc I love devs and their moments, but I'm just not a creative fuck like you and there are moments I really envy you for this - bottom line you have amazing jobs and I just made a joke:)
to answer your question I work in finance and accounting.
and ass doctors - gastroentrologists :)
  • 7
@ursa don't apologize because @pjhauser is jelly of you're husband having a wife and has insecurities about his self-worth! In fact, it's pretty damn fucking cool that you're cool/supportive/interested/whatever enough to bother posting here.

@pjhauser might I suggest `porneq.com`? They've got a ton of fulllength (dvd length) videos.

Something tells me that might help you vent your frustration ;)

He probably works weekends to get away from you. Try supporting him, and I'm sure it will work in your favour, he'll want to spend more time with you and do shit together. If that fails, move on. Also tell him there's no need to build a shop from scratch, there's just no need for small shops with standard requirements.

@helloworld HA. OH WOW! You totally went there, hahaha.
  • 12
@helloworld I'm pretty sure he doesn't, since I'm there pulling all nighters with him so we could spend the day with our kid :) but dw, if you stop being such a huge dickhead maybe someday someone will love you too.

    @ursa OH SNAP.

this is an actual rant, have my upvote

I feel sorry for your hubby working weekends. I assume that he is at least being paid over time to make it worthwhile. I work in Germany, weekends (and especially Sundays) are sacred (sort of literally). So I don't usually end up working for "the man" on weekends.

@drRoss the the fk is EVERYBODY using that snap thing? What did I fking miss? O.o
  • 0
@rozzzly I was six there. Probably gave a fk. What happened?

    @SirWindfield the year 2003

"Oh snap" originated, I believe, from ebonics, then us white people picked it up and ruined it.

The expression is meant to describe one's surprise. It's roughly the equivalent to: "oh shit!!" albeit with a less negative connotation, implies approval, and isn't considered obscene. It's most commonly used by a response by a third party to an insult made from one person to another, acknowledging the effectiveness/comedic value.

    > A --> B: yo mamma so fat she caused a stack overflow
    > C: oh snap

@SirWindfield so your 19? congrads on being a dev at your age. I must applaud you (golfclap.gif) for being a competent dev at such ur age. 'Twas not so long ago I was your age.

My advice: stay in college & contribute to OpenSauce projects on github. Just pick one/some that interest you; comment on issues, maybe make a PR. 2-3 Years of github activity looks real good when interviewing.

@rozzzly even thought I love to come, I am currently studying business economics paired with electronic engineering, so basically nothing with code.

I just couldn't see myself doing it for the rest of my life tbh. But I won't stop with it for sure ^^

Coding is so much fun, and it really helped me out to be more productive my automating certain things in my life (that was the main reason why I started to code). I hated it to edit the music files after downloading them from YouTube (I only listen to copyright free music, don't worry) so they get recognized by iTunes. I wrote a script that parses the filename based on multiple regex expressions and edits the tag if one of those match. That saved my soooo much time ^^

Fml, I just saw my typo.

    @SirWindfield
"I only listen to copyright free music, don't worry"

Now I AM worried. Son, this is the internet, everything is free---if you spend 2 seconds/minutes on google.

    ---

That's cool tho, when I used iTunes, I remember the pain of editing shit (especially merging multiple tracks into the same album) Hell, spend an afternoon, create a github repo with your script, tag @rozzzly somewhere and I'll contribute!

As far as your career goals: you might want to look into doing MGMT for software dev, possibly becoming one of the dreaded "project managers." You obvi have a decent grasp on how us devs operate. I encourage you to keep learning, even if business is your endgame. I'm sure you've seen plenty of `devRant`'s about shitty PMs who say garbage like:
    > so I want you to take the wordpress site and add a store to it using a batch script, oh and it's due on monday
    > ...but its saturday....

If you do anything tech related, knowing devops, understanding what we do will only make you more successful

// @usra sorry for hijacking ur thread with my wall of text
    ---
@dfox for my sake plz, extend the post length :( On mobile it's set at 1000 chrs, desktop is set at 500... seems backasswards. Suggestion: at ~500 chrs truncate the text to the nearest word and append something like `( ... read all )` to reveal the post. I'm too goddamn verbose, I feel bad writing 3+ posts all the time :(

@rozzzly just... Just don't hit me dad!
No seriously, I usually support artists for their music, it's their job and main income. Same goes for software engineers. If you create a piece of software and want some money for your effort, sure, you deserve it. But their are a lot of EDM producers that do music for the sake of fun (axello, Jim yosef sometimes, tobu is really good if it comes to tropical house).

I will upload the script later on. I recently wanted to rewrite it so it can be extended with new patterns/behaviours easily. I am currently having exams, so it will probably be in a month or so. Will definitely mention you ^^.

To your huge text wall. I am thinking the same. The more you understand on how people do their work, how they operate will ultimately help you out to understand how much time they actually need for certain things. I read a lot of those rants and always thought why the heck do people not understand that writing code isn't just a thing done in 2 hours...
